Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

We should all take mental health/sick days tomorrow

Don't know about you all, but this is having a serious negative effect on my health.

I'm doing what I can control- resume is updated, I'm applying. I try to manage my stress in a healthy way.

What I can't control is the way our managers and 3 Stooges are handling this. So disappointed in the so-called "leadership" here.

If you're laid off next week, at least you'll be going into the week a little more rested. If not, same.

We all deserve a break from this nonsense.

"For those who already worked 50 hours in 4 days, are giving 110% or more…. There were many people in the August layoffs who did exactly the same. If not worse. Always working, always on slack till late in the night. They don’t work here any more. When it comes time to cut its arbitrary and all your time ki-ling yourself was for nothing. I had a friend who worked like that for another streamer. She’s “retired” now, as in on disability with stage 4 cancer.

Work ethic is one thing. In fact part of your ethic should be to advocate for your physical and mental health - not slave away for a corporation that doesn’t see you and doesn’t care."

I can attest to that. Right before the pandemic hit (November 2019) I suffered a nervous breakdown from working 60+ sometimes 80 and 100 hours per week at at previous employer. That lasted for 6 years. My body/mind said no more son: you need to fu--ing relax now. I heeded the warning and said never again will I ki-l myself for any company ever again. I'd rather get fired before I do that to my mind/body again. I have a young daughter who pretty much needs me and she'd be devastated if I were not around anymore. That right there alone is incentive enough to take care of my mind body first, then any job, no matter how well it pays. Money is not everything.

BR should have never been made head of the Paramount studio. His claim to fame is "Awesomeness TV"...sorry...not so awesome.

@1eyv+1uAh94m1, I've worked with all three of the Three-EOs (a.k.a., the Cerberus), and your description is not limited to CBS. CM is the worst of the three, followed by BR, and then GC way behind (maybe because he has a shorter track record of malignant narcissistic management practices).

Been around these halls (and those of 345, 1633, 770 in NYC and the old Santa Monica offices, Gower, Burbank, and the Lot) for a very long time and never seen such a fiasco of failed leadership and the worst of the worst rising to the top ranks. It was never even this bad under Phillipe Dauman -- and it was TERRIBLE then.

As Doug Herzog quoted Tom Freston, "It's like watching your high school burn down."

Working your butt off doesn't accomplish anything if you're at CBS . CBS just cares you shut your mouth & play the game. Good work has never been recognized for real by managers unless they want to sleep with you

"I’m working my a-s off because I think that’s what a professional does. If you want to quiet quit, you’re just making anxiety, etc worse for those who have to work with you. Sorry but I have kids’ college tuition to pay for, and I’m going to keep my end of the bargain rolling because I can’t afford to give bosses a reason to fire me ( even though they might anyway). You can say I’m playing into their hands, but what are you proving by making excuses to do nothing and taking a check? Why would anyone want to hire someone like you? It’s childish. I know folks at work who say they hope for off/snow days when the weather is bad even though they work from home. People need to get a grip. With all that being said, good luck to all"

You sound like a russian troll financed by putin's $10 million USD

@Jon cena: Er, you do realize we get paid the same whether we do our expected minimum or work ourselves to death, right? If you want to be the guy below, knock yourself out:

@jon cena
"Excuses to do nothing and take a check"?

You know nothing about my work ethic or experience here. Been giving this company 110% consistently for years and am proud of the work I've done here. I care about our product(s) and the people I work with. I too have financial obligations and am extremely worried about whether I'll have somewhere to live. Please don't make assumptions about others work ethics here.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves and your health. Be gracious with yourself and others.

@jon cena who said anything about quiet quitting? I have been working my A-S off. Putting in 50+ hours a week. I'm taking a day because I've already worked 50 hours M-Thursday.

It also shows solidarity with those who may be laid off.

Projection much?
