Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Just breathe and relax. Have a plan

If you get cut just breathe and make sure you have a plan. This is one situation where the grass is MUCH MUCH greener on the other side. I was cut, and it took a few months but I landed in a company that values me, and has a culture built on respect, values, and their moral compass points true north. Compensation is almost double what I made at Optum, and I don’t have anywhere near the same stress. Stockholm syndrome is real people. Stop measuring your worth by toxic peoples opinions lol. If I only knew this 12 yrs ago I would have left on my own way sooner. I don’t care what role you hold here, if you haven’t been looking and interviewing with what’s been going on all year then you have no excuse for when your number is up. Good luck too all!!

Same story here. I left in July and am starting my new role in a week. I took a small paycut but couldn't be happier. I follow Dave Ramsey and always have faith in myself so getting laid off was a blessing in disguise. Leaders at the top must be taking notes from Elon Musk and how he runs X/Twitter. The culture is NOT for me. Sending good vibes to everyone reading this.

Mind me asking where? Do they have remote positions open? I want off this ship.

I’m very encouraged by this post and the replies. This place is toxic because it has slowly become unAmerican and taken advantage of state and federal health programs while offshoring labor costs. To get even I put myself in a rut, quiet quitting while hating my boring job and doing the bare minimum. I was basically put out to pasture so I collected a salary for 2yrs doing what they asked me and not a thing more, so I did get some payback! I was in a bad rut but I started pushing back on all their woke BS, saying no to weekends, I refused to work Sundays unless well planned. So I fell out of favor and was pushed out but it was the best thing that could have ever happened! As someone else said, if you aren’t spending 1-2hrs a day looking for a job on their time then you will deserve what comes, so do it and don’t look back!

It takes some courage to walk away, but this is very true. I had been with Optum about eight years. But in 22 or 23 something changed with the company and it became a nightmare to work at. They started leading by fear. I spent well over a year in a near constant state of anxiety and worry about job security. Nothing I did was ever good enough and I frequently had my livelihood threatened. Eventually I realized it wasn't worth it, so I walked away. I actually applied with an internal business partner and jumped ship, so that made it extra gratifying. But I've been with the new company about six months now and couldn't be happier. Prior to leaving I was so deep in it I couldn't recognize just how toxic that place was. Working with a new employer really opened my eyes and gave me fresh perspective. All that say there is hope, and wherever you end up next on the career train is almost certainly going to be better than Optum.

ehhh this is not a great post, many of us will not have such an opportunity, I have been looking since April, no job even touches the salary here. Telling people to relax is not the best approach here, I'm glad you are doing well, but not everyone has been so lucky....

Completely agree! I worked for them 12 years. saw what was happening all around, got out before they got me out. making almost double what they paid me. Optum is a horrible place to work. it is a dead end, ceilings are very low with that company. Pray and allow God to guide you through. God Bless!
