Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Double standard with the RTO mandate?

Data points around me:

(1) Senior Software Engineer, transitioned into fully remote during COVID, forced to resign.
(2) Squad leader, transitioned into fully remote during COVID, still remote
(3) Architect, hired as fully remote, still remote

(2)/(3) are likely L8.

There's no criteria for RTO approvals. There's no real standard for medical exceptions.

Best to find a medical reason and run with it. Compromised immunity, hearing/vision, stress, anxiety. Anxiety is a good one because everyone has some.

No one who can work from home should be required to go to an office. Waste of time and money. Generator of pollution. However you escape the absurdity is up to you.

May the force be with you.

HR does take into account employees position level when reviewing RTO exceptions. This includes medical exceptions as well.
Just the way Fidelity has always operated.

You can’t possibly know whether someone’s medical reason is bogus or not - assuming you hold no medical degree. A doctor is required to sign it and I highly doubt that a doctor would fabricate official documentation.

HR is giving people remote exceptions, sometimes for bogus “medical” reasons, sometimes without a reason at all while harassing other employees to RTO or be terminated
