This is precisely what happens when corporations value profits over people. They destroy livelihoods and fire valuable and hardworking employees "at will". Corporate greed is to blame, short-sighted gains are to blame, infinite growth mentality (slyfully disguised as "continuous improvement") is to blame, a disjointed power structure is to blame (one that does not know the innerworkings nor the science behind what we do). We all know that the c-suite executives that extract wealth from our labor will get some nice big bonuses this year for making the decision to destroy livelihoods. We know the shareholders are happily looking at the reduction of their workforce. We know that this new "kaizen" project taking place at our site is actually a way to harm our work quality of life, increase productivity, and diminish our morale. The point of these firings is more than just numbers; it is meant to intimidate. To remind us of our precarity and that we are replaceable. Ask yourself: if we are truly "suffering as a business" why do we have a new multi-million dollar building? Why did we have a 50 year BDB celebration that cost upwards of 20k? Why are we paying for a "kaizen master" to come figure out how to extract every last drop of productivity out of us? If all this makes you scared and angry, it should. Maybe it's time to start thinking about how to secure your position, your livelihood. Maybe it's time to democratize your work place. Maybe it's time for solidarity amongst us workers and time to think of how to organize labor to have more leverage and more bargaining power. Best of luck san diego plant.
I know of at least 8 associates that were let go on 9/19/24. Three more associates the month prior.
I saw my colleagues being escorted out as if they were criminals. One person that was let go had 25 years there. Worked until 9:30 pm the night before and the next day let go. This company doesn’t value loyalty.
Know of at least of 2 associates affected. It happened first thing in the morning. Unfortunately with new open seating you have to made the walk of shame if affected
