I was in a meeting where Weal was insensed at our estimate of what US special severance would be. He’s pushing through moving Exploration office staff to lower cost locations (uk and India). He wants US share pricing, without US costs….

Wael Sawan is taking on the purpose without profits’ grifting and ‘deadbeats, leeches, and parasites’ grifting. I hope he is successful.
My understanding is that Shell also wants you to sign the severance papers to reduce statistics for age discrimination. Sure, you can sue for it “not being fair,” but the only thing that would have legs is an ADEA (age discrimination) complaint—but not when everyone else is being paid to sign an ADEA waiver.
Why are you confused about the obsession with severance?
Do you work at Shell?
Confused by the seeming obsession with severance?
in your next meeting with him record the audio and upload it onto the internet
There’s always a risk they could reduce the special severance. Weal only cares about fund managers and his bonus in the end. But the reasons they pay it are still valid. It’s to get you to sign the piece of paper saying you won’t complain or go to court etc. and not because they care about you.
If they don’t pay it they can expect a huge amount of negative press and more people going to court as in the end the ‘process’ is a joke and you could easily find issues with it.
The misspellings are odd but it’s not the first time I’ve seen someone at Shell unable to spell their way out of a cardboard box.
Reduction of special severance is the one rumor I keep hearing about and the one I’m most interested in. Would be awful to find a new role, not take advantage of special severance. And then be “right-sized” again in a year or two and get regular severance.
Not much confidence Shell will get their mojo back in the near term with the drastic shifts in strategy and inability to find significant economic opportunities.
Yeah, the culture to protect the top exec without any penalty while they cut US jobs is nonesense, it’s not only Shell. All companies can get rid of staff easily. But layoff at this scale without any public exposure is tricky. Need to expose it.
You can't spell Wael or incensed correctly but you were in the room. Sinead, is that you LOL?
Some of the Euro packages are cost quite a bit, especially when you bring home expats to sit around for 6 months and then give them a package. I would think that Wael sees the cost of getting Americans off the books by end 2025 and says "worth it!"
Incensed huh?
This expensive, experienced and high performing American is sticking around just to make Shell pay me to leave.
The CEO who takes over this sh--e show after Wael is ousted will have much to clean up.
Considering the fact that you don't even know how to spell his name (it's Wael, not Weal), I seriously doubt that you were in a meeting with him... just saying...
Lol yeah move all the exploration staff to India, surely those guys will kindly do the needful and find the oil. This company is a fu--ing dumpster fire
Their main remuneration is stock linked heavily to shareholder return and bpf. Even chairman/board members are same.
There should be a law whenever a company does layoffs the executives need to first take severe cuts in their total comp
I can’t with executives saying they need to reduce costs. Ok sweetie let’s start with you first - lead by example.
