Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Advice on move within the company.

I am asking because I know someone who moved to another country and they had problems and moved back. They did not complete their assignment and when they got back they were dropped. They have never recovered and suffer to this day. I recently moved to another position and it is unbearable. I do not feel that my skills are being utilized and I am being setup for failure. My feed back is unfavorable and I don't believe my new team likes me. I was assured that I could go back to my original position with out penalty. No one wanted the position and I thought I would be appreciated but it is the opposite. I am now at a crossroad of what to do. I am not a HIPO and just want to get to retirement at this point. If I return would I be piped or dropped excessively. My move was not a good fit at all. It is even more toxic and dysfunctional than the other. Please respond with examples and true experiences. I will have to decide very soon on what to do.

If you don’t complete the assignment you don’t possess the behaviors the company looks for in individuals that move up and retire.

Put on your big girl pants and do the job. You volunteered. Must be a millennial. Call your mom and ask her what to do.

Su-k it up; everyone has cr-ppy assignments over the long term, it is how you do during the assignment that will matter. Stay positive, do your best, and understand why people do not like you to help them turn them around—and network, network, network. If you can get out on positive terms (a manager needs you), you will continue to move up.

The best way to get a new assignment is to have a friend who is a supervisor or in staffing and development help you out. I really don't know of any other way-the system is too controlled to any individual to navigate on their own. I got out of a cr-ppy assignment because a friend was a supervisor and had an open position and was willing to lobby for me. Because my friend was the supervisor, there were no ranking consequences. I really understand your concern and wish you the best.
