Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Another customer moving to Databricks

Today my major customer announced they were moving to Databricks. There are nine months until the renewal date and that is their target. I am now assuming this will put me on the local Redundancy list. Just sit and watch and wait it out.

It was not a wise decision to make VCL the main product. Forcing everyone's IT department to evaluate migrating to the cloud pushes them to evaluate their options there, at which point becomes obvious to all but the densest of them that if they have to migrate and lose features to move to VCL anyway, they are better off investing that time and effort to migrate to something else.

Many customers use multiple analytical engines, so another outcome could be, that they continue to have TDC present in their ecosystem as well. There can be an erosion of existing workloads & new workloads might not come in. So revenue will stall from the account or potentially erode over time unless TDC does something so magical that would make the customers come back running to us.

What kind of company would start new with Teradata? Not happening that’s why SM is so evasive about this basic metric on earnings calls. Even the Teradata cloud customers who have their data in S3 see that move as part of their migration journey to Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift.

Other than the dwindling customer base and employees, no one has heard of Teradata. Everyone has know Tesla. Anyone heard of Packard? Teradata is beyond a legacy solution. Soon to be a forgotten solution.

More and more customers are moving off onto databricks and snowflake as automation makes it easy to do so. We've seen major customers migrate off in short time and that spurs others to do so. There is no one looking to move to Teradata. It's a lost cause

Umm, maybe find some expansion opps or a new logo?? That’s sad that losing your major customer leads you to check out instead of finding/developing other customers…
