I got laid off in 2011. The comments back then are a mirror image of those today. Cisco has been doing the same thing for about 24 or so years. The goal is to save money and they don't care about loosing good talent. I feel for people impacted but you had to know it was going to happen and if you didn't then that is just ignorance. Always keep your resume up to date and network with your contacts.

I know this layoff is not about me. I went through another layoff 8 years later At a different company. Maybe it gets easier each time. My point is don't take it personal and the layoffs at Cisco are never about getting rid of poor performers as I knew people who were impacted that were brilliant hard workers. Don't get stressed and take it personal. Chambers used to call us Cisco family. Well you don't treat family like that. I also hope you don't have to train your offshore replacements which is what our group had to do before we left. If you get lucky enough to survive this round please know the next time you may not be lucky. I suggest start looking for other opportunities now and leave to a smaller company like I did. Cisco has been going down hill since I was hired in 2000. Goodbye beer and cookies Friday, free drinks in break room, benefits reduction, bonus reduction, even the supply cabinet stock was reduced. Stock options, gone. For our 10 year gift they gave us some glass marbles. I hope the hr person who came up with that idea gets the promotion they deserve. Their goal was to disappoint and they did that great. Corporate greed is so bad at Cisco, it is sad. If you have talent please leave Cisco. They don't deserve you.
No one cares that you don't care about the families who are going to face real consequences. Please get some mental health counseling as you can't empathize with people going through a tough time. Everything is dismissed as 'oh it happens all the time'.
“Dude this layoff is not about you. Thousands of people and their families are going to suffer now. Nobody cares that you were laid off 13 years ago.”
And no one cares about the thousands of people and their families that are going to suffer now. You think the people getting ready to get laid off now are any more important than the tens of thousands that have been laid off over the past 20+ years? Get over yourself.
I am with OP, layoffs are sh--e, nobody likes them, and they can really be a disaster for one's self esteem and lifestyle. But it's part of the corporate world I'm afraid.
PS I am not Cisco HR or ELT

It not cisco it’s common sense of any business. Profits.
I would rather say you must be some old BS
Cisco did not buy anything like Splunk every single year since 2011
Cisco did not mandate all of us to take a break in the middle of the summer
And many others that 11y ago were perks and today are just pipe dreams.
Of course 11Y unlimited PTO was the topic of the day, you mo--n!
