This week my computer has been incredibly slow, even more so than normal. For reference takes over an hour to restart and can’t get any applications to open. Others on my team have the same issues, can’t get any work done. Anyone know what is causing this??

My CPU idles at between 80% - 85% after a restart and no applications running. I’m honestly giving up trying to be productive, every time I’m waiting for my computer to reboot I’m on LinkedIn applying for jobs. Between 30 mins to 4 hours a day applying for a different job- just playing the odds.
I used to work in the Frisco office in desktop support. There are a few things you need to check. Open task manager and see how much memory your system is using. If it is over 60% then you need a larger amound of Ram in your system. Check the space in your hard drive. You could be running out of space on the drive. If that is the case, you need a larger hard drive or you need to delete data you don't need anymore (yes I know, sacrelige. multiple 40 gig pst files, copies of your data saved locally - try changing settings to OneDrive cloud saving only). Also check the size of your virtual memory if possible. If you are not running out of space, the virtual memory file may not be big enough. It should be 1.5 times the recommended used size. Take it to desktop support windows and ask about these items. Hope that helps you.
And no I'm not coming back to work for HCL. I got a nice raise where I am, great management, great boss and a good working environment. I don't have to walk to the other side of the building to get to the lunch area, get free soda's and snacks as well.
“ This isn’t the tech bar. Take it to service desk. Do you really need to be told this?”
LOL this is priceless! Service desk is as helpful as a fa-t in the wind. It takes days for those people to get back to us. And weeks, no, months to try to resolve the issue unsuccessfully.
Service desk indeed. 🤣 LOL
This is true. Software engineer here with a newer laptop. Get “out of memory “ errors when trying to compile programs. Can’t even perform our jobs with the current environment. And then get asked by management how we can get more work done? It’s a sad joke.
It takes two full seconds to right mouse click on anything. Not only does sapience log that an activity has taken place, it needs to wait for a response to see if the user has permissions to perform actions such as Right Mouse Clicking on an icon.
And now we get Island for our safe browsing...
It is more than just sapience. You could run 0 programs and your cpu and memory will be in full use. There are programs constantly checking for new versions, constantly checking if end points are secure, and then you add sapience on top of that. All you need to do is run 1 program and it will send your machine into a tizzy
As a retired IT professional and experience at Fiserv some years back, programs such as SAPIENCE are sending an enormous amount of data on startup and daily transmission to recipient server(s). Now multiply this by god knows how many indiv Sapience installs and you have a traffic nightmare - a ton of packets being sent every send over a crowded line.
Awww, @1hep+1u1gzche , did you get your lil feelings hurt?
You know what they say, every accusation is an admission. Is there anything else you want to own up to while you're here? 😂🤣😂🤣
Probably all the spy software slowing it down.
Visiting disreputable websites.
Same here, I have biz class FTTH, and I consistently get better transfer speeds and connectivity at home than I do in any of the offices I've worked out of.
Given that this is not a laptop issue, but an in office issue; and guven that RTO, performance, sapience, etc. Data is being used to drive layoffs, this is a relavent conversation. If you don't like it, no one made you click the link 😉👍
This isn’t the tech bar. Take it to service desk. Do you really need to be told this?
I have fiber internet at home. It's faster than the sh*t we have at work. We're a fintech and tout we're cutting edge, yet our tech is outdated and can't be productive.
It's like they're doing this on purpose. Slow down your Internet and computer to make it appear you're non-productive to fire you.
press and hold the power button, issue resolved
Reducing the workforce 33% in the last few years would make one think there would be bandwidth to spare. Guess not lol.
It bothered me until I realized they must want us work at that laptop speed. Much more relaxing to be a low rider than an ambulance driver
I've been getting less than .5mb download speed in the office. Good thing we can't work from home!
Serenity now!
Big Brother keeping everyone in line!!
The hamster in your computer is tired.
Yes it’s so unproductive, I’m spending most of my time logging in and authenticating every single application.
Thank you for making my day - the ongoing torment of insanely slow performance combined with 24/7 downloads, etc, etc, make this place even more “fun” than it already is. Give us a break!
We're having issues, too. Too many updates, too much bloatware and ever since Sapience was installed on all machines, it's made the issue worse.
Takes 20 mins daily to get my sh*t up an running. Doesn't matter the age of your laptop, new or old, it's affecting everyone.
