To work at Optum or United or its affiliates, one must set aside 20 percent of your paycheck. Yes, That’s on top of 401 k, student debt, mortgage, etc. Please don’t shoot the messenger but this company thrives (literally) on inorganic growth such as layoffs, offshoring, and AI to generate profits. So, there’s a good probability of being laid off (been there.)

As a practical matter, when negotiating salary or deciding to work in this org, assume you will need 20 percent higher salary before accepting a job with this enterprise relative to another competing offer. If you get the correct salary, save the 20 percent, then when you get sacked you won’t be freaking out or desperate.
You can learn a lot of skills at this company which are easily transported somewhere else so factor that in to your decision to work or stay in this place. Just sayin.

I guess the OP doesn’t support awareness of things to be prepared for or to have much forward thinking. This site and these posts can definitely make you feel worse but I know a lot us appreciate and could use this insight and planning cuz let’s face it. Layoff/Terms are never 1 fun and 2 known fully it’s happening until it happens
