The problem with being let go is the reality that your pay was probably too high and what is being offered now is much lower. I took a 20% pay cut and feared financial security. After reviewing the final benefits, I wound up making more. I paid a butt ton less in health benefits. Retirement benefits were insanely better. There are no more 60-hour work weeks. I work 40-hour weeks, complete work/life balance, accrued sick leave and vacation leave, pension, 401k match, and no chance at layoffs. My wife and I looked very hard at the two job offers between Cisco and my current employer. We had to figure out how to cut $1200 month of spending out to make the decision. The main deciding factor was the stress and mental health. Choosing to work without fear of layoff, given realistic and achievable goals has been a dream. Yes, pay raises are a bit lower, but the pension alone offsets it tremendously. I will work 15-years, get $2,500/month pension, 401k match like any tech company. Best decision we ever made about employment.

The other issue you need to look at is your competition for the jobs you are after. AI is changing many things, overseas labor, overpriced veteran employees. It is not an easy world out there and if you are in RTP, it could still be difficult.

I found a new role about 5 months after being LRd in February. I spent almost 8 hours a day on LinkedIn and a bit on Indeed applying for jobs. After about 3-4 months into the search I became exhausted and I scaled back to 3-4 days a week.

It's a terrible job market. I know several experienced, well qualified people out of work for over a year. More experienced you are, harder it is. 130000 people from just Tech sector has already been laid off this year as per layoffs.fi

All the best.
