Well organized merchandise and interesting displays- all of that is gone. Why would I pay more to shop in a garbage heap? Give me a reason to visit the store! Everything is such a mess always, and I hope they fired the d@mb person who decided to organize by designer vs department!

Macy’s seems to be becoming irrelevant. I don’t think department stores in general are becoming irrelevant, I was in Europe recently and El Corte Ingles, Inno, Selfridge’s and Harrods all seem to be doing well.

One thing my partner and I noticed at El Corte Ingles in Madrid was that, even during their (marvelous) July sale, merchandise was well-displayed, well-organized, and easy to find. No pawing through tables of haphazardly selected merchandise. no piles of clothing in fitting rooms. To a person, the salespeople were friendly and helpful.

IMO, it’s not department stores that are the problem, it’s Macy’s that’s the problem.

Because it's certainly starting to feel that way.
