While I believe Dell will eventually rebound from its current challenges, it's clear that the company is going through a rough period. Michael Dell is a sharp leader, and as long as he avoids making moves similar to HP's split or selling off key parts of the business, Dell can establish a new foundation for growth. However, right now, it feels like we're lacking direction, and the silence from the executive level has been disheartening.
The atmosphere internally is difficult, and no amount of corporate messaging can change that reality. Dell has always had a unique internal culture, but over the past 18 months, the absence of clear leadership and an articulated vision has eroded confidence. The latest Tell Dell results reflect this—employees are unhappy with the status quo, even if those results are being spun to present a more favorable view.
The recent RTO mandates and attendance tracking systems have only exacerbated the situation, with many team members now simply going through the motions. Leadership appears focused on maintaining control and shaping the narrative, but the internal culture has shifted, and morale is undeniably low.
My two cents: I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Dell eventually steps back, similar to Bill Gates, at some point soon. Something definitely seems to be brewing.
