Read your severance package carefully before signing it. According to former employees that were laid off, they had a hard time receiving unemployment. Severance pay might reduce your benefit amount or make you ineligible.

Unemployement here is like $250/ week so not worth it anyway
Nobody is eligible for unemployment until after the term of the severance is ended. That has nothing to do with Optimum and everything to do with justifiable state rules. If you think you're getting the shaft, you're probably not that damn smart.
Also, if you interview and are offered a role anywhere else in the company, but choose not to accept, your severance is null & void as well as your unemployment since they could have “rehomed” you.
I was RIFd in May and my severance did not impact my unemployment. I’m in TN. I believe it depends on your state.
Former employee from Ohio and severance did indeed make me ineligible for unemployment. I was unemployed for about 4 weeks.
