Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Anyone else DREAD starting work every day?

Lately, I can’t stand a single second and I actually used to like my job. I feel like there’s no direction and we’ve lost so many people we actually need to get things done. Everything feels like a struggle.

I had a dream earlier this week that I got laid off, and I was SO. HAPPY. I was seriously disappointed when I woke up. It is still affecting me days later. I didn’t even have a HR conversation. I found out in one of those update emails.

Who else is feeling this way?

What's the word for dread x 100? Yeah, that.

Folks, let me tell you, I've got a big league situation on my hands here. Project Horizon, it's a total disaster, a complete failure. Believe me, it's going to be huge, just huge, the consequences if we don't take action. I'm talking massive job losses, offices closing left and right, it's going to be a bloodbath.

We need to make a deal, a big deal, to fix this mess. The current plan, it's a loser, folks, a total loser. We need to come up with a new plan, a winning plan, and we need to do it fast. I'm calling for an emergency meeting, a big one, to get this straightened out.

We're going to make Project Horizon great again, just great. We're going to win so big, folks, you won't even believe it. But we need to act now, we can't wait. It's going to be huge, just huge.

Believe me, it's going to be tremendous.

I am very compelled to bring to everyone’s immediate attention a grave and pressing matter of utmost severity. Project Horizon, in its current state, is on a catastrophic trajectory that imperils the very fabric of our organization. If we fail to take decisive action, I foresee irreparable harm, including widespread job losses and office closures, which will have far-reaching and devastating consequences.

The project's flawed framework, coupled with inadequate resources and unrealistic expectations, has created a perfect storm that threatens to engulf our organization. The writing is clear on the wall, and it is our collective responsibility to take swift and drastic measures to avert this impending disaster.

I urgently request to explore viable alternatives to mitigate the damage. Time is of the essence, and every moment counts!

I dread each day because of the uncertainty. Project Horizon layoffs are allegedly over, but higher management continues to experiment on ways to expand their profitability. There was a summit where the profit and loss statement was discussed at length, we saw how well the company was doing, and were told that making more money will help them invest in us... like anyone believes that? We aren't back-filling anything, they keep trying to find more corners to cut and people to fire, and there are less job openings on the site than ever.

Can't remember the last time we actually had good news. Everyone seems to be waiting for the next shoe to drop... and when it does, you can be sure that no one at the top of the food chain will think it's their fault. In fact, they might just convince themselves any failure means we need more 'global talent' and vendors.

In fluorescent haze, I wither away
A soul on autopilot, day by day
The clock ticks on, with no escape
As I perform tasks that my heart can't shape

The work is endless, the purpose unclear
A never-ending cycle, year by year
No challenge to strive for, no goal in sight
Just the drudgery of a dead-end fight

My mind numbs out, my dreams grow old
As I'm trapped in this routine, growing cold
No passion stirs, no fire ignites
Just the bleakness of a dead-end life.

I wish I could post a picture of the office. I feel like Charleston Heston in the Omega Man.

Yes, you are not alone. I feel lost most days due all of the added work now that everyone is gone. I used to have fun and conversations with coworkers and now they are all gone and not replaced. Even the office perks are gone. No free coffee, snacks, or even an occasional pizza lunch.
