Carmax is a terrible company. I have seen them get rid of guys that were good employees, that put time in at the company. I had a feeling something was off leading up to the layoff. For example, they were literally targeting managers throughout the company that had 10+ years tenure months before they laid off Home Delivery drivers. Left and right I would hear about the most unsuspecting people getting fired for the pettiest reasons and it was terrible. I literally felt the fake energy days before the layoff from the managers at my specific location. The fake concern they showed was hilarious, I never trusted those people and this company. I was wise to bank my checks and have a backup plan when SHTF. I never wanted to interact with corporate while I was there because I knew those people were fake. I could've met Bill Nash multiple times when he came to the stores, I was present at, but I decided to pass on every occasion because I can't do fake corporate small talk with people that really don't give a damn about me.

What’s crazy is that they just laid off 400 drivers and 15 corporate employees but last week are posting openings for 4 recruiters…lots of lifers in corporate that stick together. They ran off one of the most praised recruiters on the team while her parent was dying. I don’t know all the details but she was constantly being bragged about until a lifer was promoted to her manager and suddenly the narrative completely changed. I wonder who else didn’t know CarMax was sued in 2022 for discriminatory hiring practices and wage complaints. Crazy how well that kept that quiet even from corporate! Bottom line: they lie. Don’t trust anyone at this company and get representation.

The lucky ones were laid off. They waited until my husband showed up at 5:00 am and fired him. They claim he touched his phone when it was falling off the dashboard. He worked there 8 years, is 64 years old and had just won an award for his driving record. It was also the day before our family vacation. Later he found out about the layoffs . He was also told not to contact HR for any further information. Health insurance terminated immediately for my entire family. Devastating

The rumor is from the higher ups, they are preparing for the market crash of 2025. They are cutting production and vehicle purchase. So sorry, but I must reveal the truth. This company is attacking the frontline (the sales force) all these quota's and maxcare percentages which does make sense. is so dum, and lacks intelligence! The biggest mistake they did, is starting the CEC..... and now they are going with AI... so what happens to the sales force....good bye.... this company is slowing falling.....

Two words: Fck Carmax! Not only did they let me work a full 10 hour shift, but also had a manager from service ops come and tell me that "we're exterminating your position". On top of that, told me that I my apply to the company for a different position, only to be ignored and passed up on. 5-and-a-half years with this place, working all kinds of shifts, starting from inventory all the way through RA 1-3 with some training for the SRA, just to be thrown out as if I meant nothing. Then was told by HR that "we want to take care of you guys". Horseshit to the max. Liars. All of them. What's sad, is that I defended the company to peers many times throughout.

Oh yeah, and the severance payout along with my final paycheck was EXTREMELY robbed. In total, they took $2200 in taxes. The math is NOT mathing...highly recommend to not work for this "company".

News wasn’t even given by logistics manager in my region. He didn’t even tell the dudes that got laid off he appreciated them or their work. Not a handshake nothing. No respect for a person like that. Hopefully they’ll find something soon.

Am I in the right considering this a mass layoff? I was also part of this, finding out at the end of an overnight shift, read the same script, and told my services were no longer needed. As part of the WARN Act a company is to give those employees 60 days notice of plant closure or mass layoff which never happened. On top of that I feel as an HD driver Carmax didn’t even market our position. The process was not streamlined at all. As on different occasions I would be at the business office waiting for paperwork only to find out links had never been sent, delaying our departure to possibly show up at a customer’s house who might well be frustrated. With 11 years there I have so many different examples of how Carmax associates constantly drop the ball and someone else has to take the brunt of it. Strongly considering filing a lawsuit, especially after seeing how many of us were impacted.

People have a lot of nerve coming in on this thread defending the company. Maybe, certain people within the store felt bad, but the company as a whole could care less. "Generous Severance Package"??? It was mediocre at best, and there was absolutely no thought given to individuals who had been with the company for multiple years, with absolutely no "correctives". In my region, people who worked at production stores kept their job, even though they lacked substance of a good employee. All "satellite" and "cross-functional" drivers (VDD/Rollback) lost their jobs even if exemplary employees. I was told by several people that after we were laid off, management was pulling in small groups of store employees, informing them of the layoff, then stating we were offered jobs at the table. That is a total crock of sht. We were told off a scripted piece of paper that as of today, our job was no longer available, we are not to return to Carmax, Please, return all Carmax property to us right now. At the end, we were told about Carmax services for our now jobless a-ss, and to look at Workday starting at 2 pm. With a note that if you apply for any job, and are accepted for that position, that the pay will be less than what we were currently making, and that a percentage, if not all of the "Generous Severance Package" would have to be paid back.

Yeah, F*ck off. Corporate cares until they don't. You want to defend them, go sniff *ss over there. Get off this thread

you never know why, you only hear the lie, or some lawyer using words only he can describe. the job was good, fed my family as it should, gotta tighten up my bootstraps and once again hit the neighborhood. I'm only 58, got a lot of work life still, even though I'm going uphill, the job I had was kinda chill. relax at CarMax, never that, had to leave my name on your wall...been there. now off to somewhere....peace....

As one of the Logistics Managers that had to deliver the news to so many of our drivers, I am truly sorry. We were made aware of the layoffs on Monday and given just enough time to gather ourselves and do our best to roll it out as thoughtfully as possible. I understand that it may not have come across as such, but there is not a single one of us who was not deeply affected by this. The company did their best to live our values and do what they could to help everyone impacted, by paying for career counseling, prioritizing impacted associates applying for other positions, paying an additional 80 hours and providing a generous severance package for those who were not able to stay with the company. It is a very unfortunate situation and I wish you all the best. You are great people and will no doubt be successful in your future endeavors.

Was laid off as a driver, without notice. This is not putting people first. Didn't even offer back up position in company. Why would I come back to a company that fluctuate by downsizing back and forth like this? One of their slogan is "put people first", its a lie.

I was one of the 400 laid off and I'm very disappointed at the way they blind sided us because they knew about this week's ago. And I really liked working for carmax but that was bullsh-t the way the handled this situation
