Thread regarding Optum layoffs

For those never involved here's how it goes down

I was RIF'd in April but my boss, who was RIF'd too had me lined up to go to another division outside of Optum Tech. I was a GL30 with reports who I had to RIF in the past and the typical method is that on the morning of the RIF an invite comes out from a leader in your org, sometimes your boss, sometimes their boss. If the invite is BCC'd or an odd mix of people then it's bye bye time. The meeting is usually 15 minutes and highly scripted. You then get all your severance info emailed to the email of your choice. Your termination date is set and you lose some access, but you have access to HR, email and teams. You then can look for other work internally or sign severance papers and after 45 days of your last day you'll get your payout. My advice is if you are concerned start saving off the contact info of your friends...

One of two things will happen, either you will be let go immediately and they will take away all access within minutes.

Or you will be given 2 weeks, you’ll have limited access to things, but you’re not expected to work at all. No meetings, no convos. You get 2 weeks paid to look for a new role (there are no roles) and then after the 2 weeks you’re officially termed.

Good luck it’s a massive one

@nux+1txPz8DL Could be. My usual 1:1 was always on a Thursday, but my manager moved mine up to earlier in the morning to do the deed.

@yzn+1txPz8DL Thats why they do it on non-pay weeks. That way your last day is two weeks later and you get your check on the normal schedule, but one day short. If you just quit and don’t do the two weeks, you get your next normal paycheck on time and that’s it.

If you stay the two weeks They send your severance 2-4 pay periods after it’s signed and accepted. Took mine a month.

Thank you for this info. I was told if you're a U.S employee and part of the July 18th RIF, you won't be able to apply to different business segments like you could in the past because they have targets to meet from an onshore vs offshore perspective. This holds true at least for Optum Tech

If they lay you off they have to pay you within 6 days what they owe you

Is a manager 1 on 1 being moved to Thursday likely to be this, or just a coincidence? Nobody else on the call, just happens to be my meeting week with my manager anyways.
