Canon Lays Off Rudy Winston, the Beloved Perennial Camera Guru

Last week, Canon USA initiated layoffs that affected multiple departments. While the exact number affected was not provided, it is not insignificant and included Rudy Winston, perhaps the most prominent face of Canon’s US-based brand, PetaPixel has learned.

Winston worked at Canon for nearly 30 years as part of its professional products team and during that time was responsible for training Canon’s staff on new products, creating presentations for customers and dealers, leading numerous writing projects, and providing technical assistance to professional and amateur photographers.

How is it about DEI? That was an area where Canon failed miserably. There are no people of color (not including Japanese) in any significant position of power there. Canon USA hired a DEI senior manager around 2015 or so and she quit, frustrated after 6 months.
Pull your ignorant head out of your a-s.

Rudy was a wonderful resource for consumers. Always available, extremely knowlegeable and a pleasure to deal with. I know another person who was also discharged by Canon who was involved with profession outreach and consumer education. With the termination of these folks as well as staff at CPS, Canon has signaled it is no longer concerned about customer education and outreach. It's been surpassed by Sony in technical development and it on a downward spiral.
