It’s going to be big and going to reach far. The org culture has changed in the last year and leaders at the VP level and above are only looking out for themselves. When the sh*t hits the fan they will sacrifice anyone if it makes them look good. Desai, Frank, Sweeney, and all market leaders only care about profit. EXI survey scores were abysmal. Psychological safety is non-existent. No one is safe, not even the highest performers. Right now it’s only about the $$ and nothing else matters. There is zero humanity left in this organization.

I agree.. this is not glassdoor, LinkedIn, tiktoc or some satisfaction survey. We just want to know of potential layoffs not how bad management is, how you do not agree with hiring decisions..how you have prepared for eventual layoff.
This company is not a place to park for your career unless you are clinical or provider. It is a place you go to build experience from well known company on your resume. It is a place you work between jobs. You will never make any real money unless your at Csuite level. It is just the way it is. No leader will make Optum great again.
My take - there is a ton of 'venting', ranting and raving on this site.
There's nothing about this site that suggests it's a long term support group for people to express their feelings for extended period of times.
If you find yourself posting here, even 2 weeks after being laid-off, you are misusing this site and need to figure out a healthy alternative for your support system.
Well, in our region of Michigan DEI is not the issue. Its knowing that what you do today is pointless and has no meaning. The product is people. People doing for people. If your leadership is bad at that it will be reflected at every level. You can put on productions like town hall and fireside chat to lead a new revolution all you want. Who doesn’t get that the production/show is a sham to try to soothe the masses? Its just so cringy. I know what the top leadership is like because I see it every day. Its manufacturing. Its working a line. Its getting your numbers. Its creating profit. What industry doesn’t struggle with managing people. These leaders jump from ship to ship like a teenager working fast food. You worked for an airline/grocery store/oil/tech company and now you’re in healthcare. You went to the right schools and met the right people. Recycling execs at the highest level. Now its epic fail after epic fail. DEI has nothing to do with this. Its a failure to understand. Especially when the group making decisions will NEVER know what its like to fear missing mortgage payments. Or what you will need to juggle to make a house payment. How long your “reserve” will last (if you have one). That thought crosses my mind frequently. Why even have kids? If you can’t rely on HUGE corporations who have such a gargantuan footprint that its failures have such a ripple effect then it starts to make you think. My kids see it and they have no intention of getting chained to the responsibility of a home or kids of their own. They see the impact this job has. The lack of stability is not attractive. Kudos Sir Witty. This great company has crossed oceans to other countries to control lives through employees and patients. The sun will never set on this empire.
Diversity was the beginning of the end. UHG, as an organization, decided to prioritize diversity in its leadership team. Some saw it as a necessary step towards creating a more inclusive and representative leadership structure, while others viewed it as a threat to the established order. I personally don't care if your purple with big green spots, but please know what the job actually entails and have some knowledge of whats going on. I have actually had a director tell me “I don't know what that means my English isn't that good”
Regardless of one's stance on the issue, one thing was clear - diversity was now at the forefront of UHG's agenda. The company made a concerted effort to recruit and promote individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their experience, skills, or knowledge level. This shift in focus led to a significant shake-up in the organization's leadership, with many long-time executives being replaced by individuals who brought new perspectives and ideas to the table. Or they are just clueless and running the organization into the ground. UHG is large enough that they could be out there recruiting the best of the best, but no, some rocket scientist thinks it's the right move to remove all of the experienced employees who have weathered the storms for years and years.
And they'll blackball you on top of that. I have ten years of work history with them that I can't easily remove from my resume, and here I am a year and a half after my layoff, still unemployed.
There is no layoff
To the "pipe down" poster, I'd say the OP is a little too close for comfort eh? If the truth hurts...
The fact that year after year they score low on certain things on the ee surveys and their response is always the same is indicative that they truly don’t want to change and improve the culture and value employee input.
If you don’t mean what you say, it doesn’t matter who you hire, eventually it all comes crashing down.
An overhaul would help, but they need to be genuine and not just lip service like the past x leaders. If your priority is profit over people, it’ll never change.
You have to think that there are some very influential shareholders there pulling the strings and that’s why all of these senior leaders have all been the way they are.
Likely most employees would agree that the org needs a complete overhaul with a genuine focus on people. If you don’t, then you’re probably someone’s pet and have been getting some kind of preferential treatment that most of us have not.
Most of these posts about layoff dates is the Angry Mouse Jiggler who was fired for slacking off.
The poster throwing out phrases like “pipe down” is a perfect representation of Optum's stellar management style these days. And it's not just "pipe down” - they love classics like "let's circle back" and "take this offline." Obviously, talking to everyone like toddlers is their secret recipe for boosting morale and productivity. Exactly what we all needed. IT(SS) is the ideal place to pick up such enlightening vocabulary.
To the person telling the originator to pipe down: Why should they? They are telling it like it is. They are accurately describing the situation. If you have 'REAL' information to disprove what they stated, I'm not sure why you wouldn't have shared it.
This is so sad to hear. I hope perhaps an overhaul will help fix the company’s issues.
Everything the originator said was true
Pipe down - you added nothing and just spew hate to anything UHG Optum. When was your last paycheck from them 2020? Please leave this site so we can get REAL info and not your amplification of anger. We are hard working people with families.
