Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Former VMware Senior Staff, Currently at Broadcom

In response to any negative perceptions, I would like to express that I find Broadcom to be significantly superior to VMware in various aspects. My salary has nearly doubled, the work-life balance is exceptional, and the work itself is meaningful. I am very enthusiastic about the future prospects and have complete confidence in Hock Tan, who I believe is a true visionary. The company operates as a business entity, not as a charitable organization. Occasional layoffs are a common and anticipated aspect across various industries. High-performing employees can rest assured that their positions are secure.

You must have been way underpaid at VMW then. Pay did not go up with the acquisition.

Well, you may have started really low and got a bump even by Broadcom standards. Anyways, happy for you. Stay forever.. but for those who have experienced what a Silicon Valley company should be, this is a real sh-t hole by a long shot.

Your salary hasn't doubled. Your total comp possibly has, but that only comes once a quarter and will start to tail off sooner or later. And if you get laid off less than a month after a vest you don't get the next one.

They don't want a disorderly exit. They give RSU and keep the people in delusion. Then they can cut slowly and methodically anyone they want and keep anyone they want over a couple of years. Hock and team have mastered this art of cutting on Broadcom, Symantec, CA and dozens of companies. At this point it is muscle memory for them.

Seniors have to cut 10 to 20 juniors to save their job. The seniors will keep the spirits up for the juniors so that the whole ponzi doesn't collapse. Keep them calm and cut.

P6 field here.
OP is mostly correct, but HT is no visionary. Just a ruthless businessman.
Even our (enterprise) customers quietly say it's better.

I am staff 2, I am doing mts2 work since the acquisition but pay is 50% higher. Can't complain even if I got axed soon. If I were younger (I am 43) I would have left as the work is career su----e.

Psychopathy, or psychopathic personality, is a personality construct characterized by impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited and egocentric traits, masked by superficial charm and the outward appearance of apparent normalcy

The western capitalist corporation naturally promotes these psychopaths to the top. The top ckk sukkers don't have any idea what is going on. The system is one of constant turmoil as companies are born and die as a cycle because of the inherent instability. Broadcom is going to die soon.

I am noticing a severe amount of anger from some folks. I suggest looking at your restricted stock portfolio and having a quarterly countdown to keep you smiling.

Are you one of the ones who coasted up based on who you knew and not what you accomplished ?

I was there for close to 10 years worked my butt off was responsible for what built your appliances for a good amount of time but despite being responsible for a critical part of the infrastructure it was always whoever was buddy buddy with the manager , director etc. that would get promoted. I watched several times as individuals that were just good talkers while doing very little almost nothing, even junior got promoted. That is how VMware was like most of the time I was there.

Funny because Broadcom is cutting mostly junior folks - mts2/3/smts. This means your opinion is not valued much. Unfortunately management and senior ICs gang is still strong

VMware is on a fast track to crazy town. How is Broadcom going to fill this 90 Billion dollar hole? First rule of holes: when in a hole stop digging. Fire everyone.

VMware employees are like ho----s. We can only do this for one more year. The abuse is brutal. All holes are hurting. No security. No shame. No glory. Just the money is great. The pi-ps (senior management and DEs) are making out like bandits. All of them will retire in one year. The most senior pi-p Ragooo retired with 50 million already. Ragoo gang already retired.
