Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Getting rid of older, higher paid employees

That's what this layoff is all about. Showing the door to people who have been here for decades in some cases just to save a few bucks. Nobody is thinking about the institutional knowledge we're losing with them. Or that it will probably take at least two new people to replace any of them. This is such a short-sighted move and it will cost Canon dearly in the future.

12 years with Canon and 30+ in the industry. Also over 60 so perhaps that was the criteria.

I was let go and offered no severance per management after 24 years. I asked was told no but only the manager received severance.

I have been at Canon 20 years…. I did not get cut however the fallout is tremendous!!!! The employees left in the wake of the bloodbath that occurred on Tuesday is bleak at best. My dept is 90% depleted. Nobody knows what is happening due to executive management not communicating at all with anyone. For everyone speculating the severance. 2 weeks per year with a max of 1 year payout based strictly on tenure and get to keep health coverage during the paid time. Not getting cut………. Blessing or curse?!?!? Based on busting our as--s and doing our job plus the jobs of everyone that was horribly dismissed with little to no regard from executive management the impact this is having on the remaining employees all for the sake of a bigger profit than usual?? I say a curse! When it gets to the point your insides shake constantly and you do not know where you will be shuffled off to and who your new manager will be is a frightening aspect. No job is worth having to be medicated over due to constant anxiety attacks (me) on the daily! Had they asked for volunteers before hacking the workforce to death, I would have gladly signed up!!!!!
