Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Is it worth it?

We all need money, there’s no way around it if you want to survive in this world. This even more so if you have a family, so you work to provide your kids and spouse the comforts of life and insurance, you can’t forget insurance. So everyone is desperate to keep their job. So, you put up with more. More sm--k talk from your manager, more passive aggressive snarkiness abuse, longer hours per day more often with the implied “or else” as an undertone. Over time, you are mentally, physically, emotionally worn down and you cave in to just accept it. Is it worth it? This answer will be different per person. The less you want or desire out of life, the less important it is to accumulate “things”. So for some its an adjustment of lifestyle first. Other’s like to have “things”. Its amazing what one will put up with in order to keep their salary. I think overall a person would be better off looking for a job with the same salary or higher in hopes that the environment is not as toxic. For me, I can’t adopt a monk like lifestyle, so I need to work but nothing says I need to keep working…..here. Time to get off the train.

“Salary is a dr-g they give you to forget your dreams”. - - -Warren Buffet.

I would recommend to get severance package rather leave by own. Let’s Citi pay you for your nightmares.

This is all true, its is good if you are able to get out by having another revenue stream or income. Also, for me to leave now would be the best, but I will pay later on. Living on just saving and no revenue stream is a death sentence. Life is unpredictable and you never know when you need money like a medical emergency where insurance or a lump sum of money is needed. With Job market the way it is, there is no guarantee how long you would be out of a job, and you will be competing with ex tesla, ex google employees and other top competitors for the same jobs you would be applying. Companies are looking to cut jobs everywhere, so they will continue to squeeze all their current employees to do more. I dont know the end of this if the US economy continues down this route.
Quitting your job with no revenue stream is a death sentence. Relying on just saving is risky and life is very unpredictable. Especially if you have others relying on you. Its only worth it until you can find another way to make money and cover your needs.

Many quit because they have a safety net, like spouses and parents that can support them if they are unemployed. If you are on your own, its a huge risk, especially if you have a family and you are the only income stream. This wont be forever situation, but hang in there. This wont be for the rest of your professional career, this situation we are all in, unless you are close to retiring.
