Can you apply internally to other roles after one year without letting your manager know?

I temped for a year and figured things would get better if I went perm. I bailed after two weeks of more micromanaging. UHG (now Optum) is where engineers lose their passion for their career.

Your current boss doesn't need to be involved and won't know until new boss needs to negotiate start date (unless they've changed something in the past year). I had to leave a tyrant boss there and switch roles to a better department.

You of my need to tell your manager before you receive an offer and before the other manager decides to reach out to your current manager to get a reference (at the very latest). You do not need to tell your manager prior to each time you're applying.

@knr+1tp5zUxz. That's an unusual comment! Maybe the person just doesn't like the position or intuitively knows it's going under. Don't be jealous of a more talented coworker! Encourage them to leave if they aren't happy. So many inept managers with high turnover rate because the managers have zero experience and were just put into position by their "friend"

It’s been a year so I should be able to apply. How can they treat you terribly?

Good luck getting current manager to release you. This is regardless of time and title. If you are any good most wont let you go. If less then a year you really dont know yet how this manager operates and risk making an enemy. Just do your time like everyone else since you are not as special as you believe

Yes. You are not required to let manager know until you score an interview. Be cautious as many managers will treat you terribly if they get wind you are looking. Not all but most do not support anyone growing more than themselves. Best of luck to you
