Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Can we, pls, stop using the term “culture”?

What culture? Culture is defined by cultivation. You need to have an actual organization with vision and goals grounded in values. They can be tuned and adjusted over time, but not completely undermined. You need to treat employees with respect. You need to have management that reflects your vision. You need leadership with authority capable of navigating business while preserving the foundational values. What do we have? Run of the mill bland corporate behemoth cultivating the greed on the top. There’s no culture to speak of.

Been here 17 yrs. Quickly you learned this company never has and never will give a sh-t about employees. You are a soldier of fortune in alliance to whomever is on your side that day but tomorrow all bets are off

There was a time I wanted to believe the leadership cared about the core values and corporate culture. But those days are gone. There’s no loyalty, there’s no compassion, I’m sure I don’t need to convince anyone on this forum.
Ask anyone that was RIFd recently if compassion was used when they were let go, which is a situation that really needs it.
Favoritism, nepotism, the straight up lying and deceit. The Re-deployment team was a total joke, too.

Huh? Kind of hard to forgive until you're on stable ground! This org used to take care of its employees and members, now the focus is all about profit. What a disgrace...

Narcissistic Culture

Excessive striving for position, status, and a sense of superiority. Excessive self-focus (i.e. egocentricity) and lack of awareness of/concern for others. Selfishness and greed. Inflated sense of worth and power. Expectation of favor/sense of entitlement.

Ah, yes, our beloved corporate giants. It's truly inspiring how they manage to stumble through the complex world of business without even a basic map or a clue. Their idea of 'vision' is probably something they see after staring too long at their stock charts. And 'values'? Well, they value profits, that's for sure. The respect they show employees is truly heartwarming - if you consider a pat on the back right before pushing you off the cliff 'respect.'

Leadership here is like watching a toddler drive a car - entertaining but also terrifying. Navigating the business landscape? More like navigating a minefield blindfolded, with a stick of dynamite in hand. But hey, at least they're consistent in their pursuit of turning everything they touch into a soulless money-making machine. Who needs culture when you have quarterly earnings to inflate?
