I worked at Bp and Bpx but I've also worked for others and I'd have to say that you would do better to go to Chevron.

Bp/Bpx has lost its way. Its bad there and the leaders are not good. It was breath of fresh air when I left and went to another company.

I didn't realize how bad it weighed on me working there.

There are a number of factors that would need to be considered in answering this question such your position/beliefs on climate change, whether you are an American or something other than a Brit, what your area of expertise is, etc. A definite bias exists at BP for the Brits. BP is moving a lot of technical expertise to Pune, India.

As an engineer having worked for BP a long time, if I were now choosing a role at BP vs. Chevron I would chose Chevron. BP’s leadership (if you can call it that) up and down the ranks is not good, lacks direction and does not inspire confidence. Technical expertise is dwindling rapidly and real training options are limited to non-existent.

There are some good things with BP but IMO the long term future does not look good.
