Thread regarding Dish Network layoffs

Nothing Good Is Happening Here

It seems like no progress is occurring. Working hard for Dish/EchoStar is a waste of time because it's never been best in telecom or anything for that matter! Any optimism for EchoStar/Dish's future is sadly misplaced and akin to saying The Big Guy (Charlie Ergen's buddy) is in command of all his faculties. Dish is a miserable place to work with layoffs galore and is no longer a standalone company following its merger with EchoStar. The company is losing Sattelite TV and wireless subs in drivesIt won't be long before Amazon (or another behemoth Corp or private equity firm) buys it's spectrum at a steep discount in bankruptcy.

Dish TV: pay TV subscribers in the U.S. 2014-2024

June 24, 2924

In the first quarter of 2024, Dish TV had 6.26 million traditional pay TV subscribers, down from about 7.1 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company's over-the-top (OTT) service, Sling TV, had around 2 million subscribers at the beginning of 2024.

So what happens in a scenario, if they do not get cash to fund Q4 operations in time before Q4 starts? They have not announced layoffs yet as far from what I have seen. Q4 starts in October and that is less than 2 months away. Would employees not come in to work or would then a BK have to be required?

Intel and DELL, big tech companies, amongst other companies announced restructuring plans with layoffs during their earnings calls done recently. Restructuring seems to be a common move this quarter. Do you think it is likely dish announces some kind of a restructuring plan too or not?

What happens if they do not have cash to pay for Q4 operations and the debt in Nov? Do they then for sure need to do a BK or are there other things possible?

When is the next earnings call? Dish can get better results this earnings call.

Sounds fake. People have been posting and predicting mass layoffs for months for this and other companies.

The leader in question does not buy into the political BS that spews like rancid sewage through the halls of Charlie's company. They are truth speakers, and have never told me anything that did not come to fruition. It will be all of the above with the massive size of the impacted employees. Think of the phrase "right sizing" the titanic, and that should tell you that some will be given life boats, while the majority will be told they are not going to be saved.

To the person who said "MASSIVE layoff and restructuring in September": is it only Dish? or other teams in Echostar as well? could you share with us more details on the source? how many layoffs?

Previous comment. What leader would announce that ahead of time? Makes no sense.

I don't know, anyone can post something like that.

MASSIVE layoff and restructuring in September. More bad news toward the end of the year with many more being let go, and whole divisions being leveled. If you do not have an updated resume, get to it. From what this leader said, severance packages will not be ideal for 90% of those impacted. 2 weeks of pay only. DISH is not a good place to be, with leaders playing the political kiss-a-s game and burying their team.

re: the question about the MoffetNathanson (the analyst firm predicting bankruptcy) and the timing of a bankruptcy declaration vs the November debt maturities - the complicated answer is, it depends, but it's not necessarily a requirement that they file for a chapter 11 reorganization process ("declare bankruptcy") before missing a debt payments (which technically means you are in default, but does not necessarily mean you have filed for bankruptcy). It would not be unusual if there is some grace period baked in to bonds as well

The other thing to bear in mind is that dish filing for a chapter 11 bankruptcy doesn't mean the lights go off and everything shuts down - it means something more like "dish notifies the courts that they are going to propose a plan for what to do next (how to get back to profitability, which creditors will get partially paid back what amount, etc) likely followed by a lot of legal wrangling (including likely the need to resolve current lawsuits about, essentially, is dish/echostar really one company, with all of it liable for all of its debts, or not), and then in the end the bankruptcy judge needs to approve the whole deal. The most likely outcome even at the end is that dish keeps operating in some way.

Anyway the tldr is, the debts due in November are the next big hurdle. If they announce successfully raising more cash before then, that's definitely a good sign; but if they don't, it certainly heightens the risk of layoffs, but not in a 1:1 way, and can't be correlated with the exact timing

Some commenter said there would be mass layoffs come July in a different thread. Well, it is almost end of July and no public WARN notices yet about layoffs. DISH will find a way.

Some analyst said he predicts BK announcement in December. Doesn’t dish have a lot of debt due in Nov? Wouldn’t a company need to announce BK before that due date if they can not pay it or does that not mater? Is it likely bk is announced next earnings call or Q3 earnings call? Do companies low key announce BKs?

It doesn't really matter if churn has slowed down - they're losing customers, period. I doubt there will be much improvement from Boost, if any at all. Teaming up with "Coach Prime" didn't do anything for that brand. He's not going to get people to go to Boost. Plus they didn't do any marketing around it. The real question is, when do they announce bankruptcy.

New Q2 call will be in about a few weeks. Does any one think dish will lower churn and increase boost customers? How many tv customers will come or leave? Thoughts?

To the person who said they were let go because of some made up reason, when were you let go?

What dept did you work for that you got let go from? Similar story to many others (made up HR reasons)...

I was let go from DISH for some made up BS. HR is a joke. Get out while the choice is yours. I can tell you the grass is much greener outside of DISH. To the person who said the core principals are laughable, that is an understatement.

Even if the business were viable the company itself is atrocious to work for, the level of secrecy between management and the employees you would think we work for the CIA not selling TV and phones. Even the programs designed to "improve" leadership skills really just teach you how to micromanage your team and point the finger when something goes wrong. To say that DISH follows any of it own core principles is laughable, and anyone who believes that DISH has your best interest in mind as an employer I beg you to wake up, and get out before the ship sinks.
