Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Broadcom -- Security Division (Symantec / Carbon Black)

Has anybody heard about any layoffs in the Security division? What is happening with the merger between Carbon Black and Symantec? Both groups have had layoffs in 2023 / 2024. Do you expect more in December 2024?

Looks like a huge layoff round is coming to Symantec teams globally across all the functions.
HT wants to save some money by outsourcing everything and milk the division as much as he can before giving up on it.

As far as leadership goes, I would not trust CB leadership as far as I could sp-t.

So many lies, so many broken promises, so much stonewalling.

lol CB is trash, literally written by interns for interns. Not sure why we keep leadership team there lol

Generalizations across many product lines that were the product of acquisitions is always suspect.

Some products were indeed "trash" (i.e. unstable or didn't perform well). Some were crazy globs of code that somehow were rock sold. Some were lovely code bases that were flat out sh-t in production. Some were about what you would expect between the two extremes.

I only wish we had more interns. Too much time was spent on day to day housekeeping rather than new features and bug fixes as attrition took its toll.

I was former Carbon Black, now working for a competitor.

I can say first hand: great folks at CB but they have absolutely no idea how far behind they are. It was very sobering to see first hand just how outclassed CB's lineup is.

Essentially CB sat still for about 2 years as this acquisition ground on... with Herculean effort they might had had a chance of catching up had they started 2 years ago... certainly now they do not. Morale was ki-led, and folks just rested and vested while they waited for sweet sweet severance.

The folks left at CB - as I said great people - are simply too few now to make any meaningful impact. Too much institutional knowledge has left... some of them are telling me that in some cases they are struggling to simply compile the product.

This is HT, I have temporarily created the illusion of being an AI leader, sell while you can.

Symantec is no different from Carbon Black, outdated products and declining market share. Hock should dump the whole ESG ASAP.

Hock Tan here, I will axe some folks until we meet my margins. I promise stock price will go up until 2k next 3 months. Cheers, HT

Why not, CB is useless product overlapping with existing. It is just burning money for now, hopefully HT trim the fat so that we can get even richer!
