Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Look after yourself

Good morning people, just a short PSA. I know a lot of Teradata staff read these posts, concerned for their jobs, their livelihood, their families. We are all watching this site to see what news there is of the chance we may be soon be added to the ranks of the unemployed.

With under 10 years here, I still feel a relative newcomer. However, I have seen enough to realize this company has fallen from its heyday and is now in very poor shape. It is being run into the ground by people who are out of their depth.

The regular RIFs are unsettling, watching good colleagues get ‘taken out’ is catastrophic for company morale (and influences overall company success), and for those of us left, it drives up anxiety and probably for many, its a case of borderline depression. Why would we possibly want to work under these conditions? Purely because we need a job! I think waiting for the hammer to fall is not good for your mental health - it's not easy, but I recommend looking for other jobs now (I know the market is tough) - but working for a bunch of a$$clowns is no good - unless you are about to retire permanently, working here is not good for your career, its certainly not good for your mental health and given the way amazing people are treated so poorly, voting with your feet is I feel the best option. I think it's time to be brave, keep taking the money for as long as possible, but actively try and move to a company that actually values you. Comments welcome.

I left TD last year for a new role with a new employer. I had only been with Teradata for 4 years, much less time than many. But that was long enough for it to negatively impact my personal health, relationships, and family.

I work twice as hard at my new job/new role. But it is still less stressful than being at TD! It took me 4 years to come to the realization-- that it was NOT the work that I dreaded everyday:

It was the unpleasant EMOTIONS THAT TD MADE ME FEEL ON A DAILY BASIS.

The toxic managers. Lack of a human resources department. Lack of accountability. My professional advice ignored. The lack of respect for my personal time and PMs scheduling meetings through lunches everyday etc. The total lack of planning by management, which made my job impossible.

Trust me Teradata folks-- you can do better on the outside.

I quit without another job lined up. I couldn’t sleep Sunday night thinking about what Monday would bring. Took 3 months to start somewhere new and get my life back. We spend the majority of our waking hours working, it’s just not good for you to be miserable 8-12 hours a day! Just ask your wife/kids

I'm pepping my resume and started looking. Never thought it would get this bad but my manager is not a people person. He was gifted his role last year after his boss retired and got rid of a really good people manager. He tells and is aggressive in his tone. People tell me it's his Greek culture, but it's got worse over the last few months.

I was RIFd last Halloween. I was fortunate enough to land another job and started in January. The year end holidays were very depressing. It turned out to be a blessing even though it didn't seem the way at the end of October.

I got let go almost two years ago—a week or two after my boss told me my job was safe. I was super fortunate to get a job within a couple months. Made the holidays so much more enjoyable. I didn’t realize how bad the TD culture was, how toxic the atmosphere was, how cliché the executives’ statements were, and just how behind the rest of the industry TD is until I worked somewhere else.
There is a better life after TD. The transition is very hard, applying to jobs you’re certain qualified for and not getting a response is hard, mentally coping with being jettisoned after delivering quality work for years is difficult, but once you land a good job with a good company, everything gets immediately better and brighter.

Thank you for this. I’ve been looking for a bit and it’s really hard out there but trying. Even with internal referrals I’m not getting interviews but we keep pushing along. I know many people would love to have a job but this place is beyond awful for your mental health. If I wasn’t already on medication I would be now after working here.

I got out and the new job is amazing.

It nice being one the winning team again. With leadership that isn't incompetent.
