Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Non-stop layoffs

It feels like we've been having non-stop layoffs for a few years now. Am I wrong? As soon as one round is done we start hearing rumors about more happening within a month or two and they're yet to be wrong. This is affecting the mental health of everybody working at Optum. It's a definition of an unhealthy work environment.

This isn’t anything new. It’s been happening for years and years. UHC doesn’t over hire the way Optum does so their layoffs are more strategic. Your direct manager may care about your feelings but don’t expect the executives to blink an eye before they rif entire departments. When the realize they over cut and are spinning and spiraling, they will start a hiring frenzy again and the cycle starts again….

Layoffs have always been a staple at UHG. However, the frequency has certainly increased exponentially over the past 3 or so years culminating in the May 2 layoff tsunami. We still don’t have final numbers for that date, do we? Some said 10k, some said 20k. Will we ever know the truth?
If you notice the number of offshore hires over the past 3 years has also grown. So the more they layoff here, the more they hire offshore.

Same as it ever was for 15 years. Count on a rearrange of the deck chairs every qtr. New companies that Optum buys always get the spotlight for the first few years. Then the attention moves on to the next target. I only pay attention to immediate boss since anything above that i could care less. It helps to avoid any town halls or all hands meetings. Nothing useful there just more noise to roll around in your head.

What you are experiencing is normal for Optum.
