Teradata loses major deal in APJ

A large government customer due to refresh their platform in June has decided to push the platform for another year to look at alternate options.

The renewal was looking to be in the vicinity of $60m and puts a massive hole in the territory number for this year.

Meanwhile the customer has agreed to run unsupported as they look at alternate options.

The account lost their entire sales team late last year with no replacement team in place the customer has decided that Teradata doesn't want their ongoing business.

2024 just gets worse and worse.

Looking at the revised org chart it appears the sales director for gov has paid the price for the lost deal. Probably has to be a sacrifice made to please the ELT. Doesn't look like we have much of a government business there any more based on looking at numbers in that region.

The ‘team down there don’t cover themselves with glory’? The Aus team in general or the Government team?

Not really surprised as it's well known the team down there don't exactly cover themselves in glory. Very few customers remaining with databricks, aws, Microsoft and Google taking away business.

Hearing it's not good down there. Several employees have one foot out the door. Local management aren't well respected by their own teams and customers are actively moving off. One former customer has been all over the news recently glowing about how easy it was for them to migrate off. They even presented at a conference here in NV recently.

Sounds like a repeated pattern around the globe at the moment. Our customers are going unsupported to buy themselves time as they migrate off. When they see the mega majors are able to migrate off they know they are able to do it.

There are lots of tools now around that help migrate faster and our customers are exploring these and accelerating their plans.

Its not inaccurate, but it is a very glass half empty take on the situation.

The customer aint Cloud oriented and would take forever to migrate to something else.

Nothing this company does surprises me. Dropping the ball is just another day at Teradata.

Any reason to think this govt customer's decision not to refresh was already made a while back so no point in assigning account coverage? It would be v worrisome if this came as a complete surprise...

Not that I've been through an experience like this before, but any HBC will confirm it will be a snowball from now on...
