Cisco can't afford a 45B(ish) acquisition esp after Splunk.
Orcl shares just broke out to fresh highs and nearly 400B market cap.
Cisco chief revenue officer starting at NTAP on July 8 as the Chief Commercial Officer reporting to ... Cesar Cernuda and not George Kurian?
That's odd.
Netapp has serious risk as standalone player too.
Not too mention if GK left for bigger opportunity ... There would be serious vacuum in leadership.
Oracle seems like good landing spot and potentially for GK to compete for Safra CEO job if she transitions out in next 3-5 years or lead Oracle Cloud.
ORCL had co CEO arrangement until Mark Hurd passed on.
What happened to Cisco buying NetApp?
Needs to happen now. Will take 12-18 months for deal to get through regulatory reviews.
Oracle needs to scale up in the cloud. Having the NetApp install base of 50% unstructured data helps them become leader in AI compute, particularly in the enterprise.
As of last call, Safra said Oracles 2021 acquisition of Cerner was back in growth mode and will no longer be broken out on call. Read that Oracle is ready for another acquisition now that Cerner integration is complete.
Guess who is a large Netapp customer? You guessed it ... Cerner.
Netapp appears like perfect strategic acquisition for Oracle.
