BNSF Restructuring a longtime plan

Some may think this is a week by week or month by month process it takes a year to eighteen months for a restructuring of this magnitude.

  1. You need a transition management team. First a decision maker is needed who knows the requirements of the business 2) Someone to analyze the data coming in.
  2. Someone to organize the process.

2nd) you need to communicate the restructuring plan to. Middle management.
3rd) A skills assessment of your employees who can play several rolls within the workforce.
4th) Prepare your severance pay in advance you only have to deal with disgruntled employees once.
5th) Put a talent development program in place, target key individuals cross skill multiple employees (sound familiar labor employees doing craft work)
6th) Roll sustainability do employees have a good relationship with each other, if possible pair those that do together.
7th) Review and reflect, do changes need made are employees in a roll to succeed you don’t want to keep shuffling the deck
This is just one outline but it seems like the model bnsf is using.
They already know who the axe is going to fall on already this takes a lot of pre planning and longer to come full circle most use a quarterly timeframe.

I was just merely pointing out one process that’s used, if people would take the time to search “restructuring of a large company” you would see most likely what the next step in the process it’s easier to point at coworkers than to take the time to plan a counter move.

Great analysis! Thank you for your contribution to the company! You've made Uncle Buffett and his share holders proud! (And rich!)

Sadly, you've been furloughed to help maintain record breaking profit and cut overhead costs!

We hope you've enjoyed your time with BNSF!

Enjoying the current job market amidst the collapse!

This might work in a non-union shop ,but if you have a lazy employe that has a better roster number it will never work.
