Thread regarding NCR Corp. layoffs

50 year history of bar code scanning

Yes, fifty years ago first bar code scanning system was installed at Marsh grocery in Troy, OH.

NCR 255 system with 782 scanner (big as a modern microwave, strong tube laser), 726 store processor with PLU file on a 651 drum memory.

Major event and NCR makes no announcement. Instead they layoff 100’s of employees.

Such di-k weeds.

Say bye-bye to code 9! "Calibration failed. Code 9. Mechanical interference during calibration. End of calibration". 7879 is the last model from NCR. Rebadged zebra from now on.

IBM got it right! And what a great idea NCR had. Swapping SCSI use rights for rights to use IBM Micro Channel. And no one uses Micro Channel.

Been hearing some pretty bleak things about laid off employees. Wonder if it will matter to leadership that this might be some one’s 13th reason. Probs not. They dgaf about anything but the dollars

Ncr had an amazing history, but it’s been gone for a while now, its be in the decline for over a decade, employees no longer have any value to upper management, I would suggest they just move all operations to 3rd world countries, they are a 3rd world company. The decisions that have been made have destroyed any and all hope for a future. The brand is destroyed forever, no fixing it at this point.
