CDK hack upends US auto industry, sending dealers back to paper forms

June 24 (Reuters) - U.S. auto dealers grappled with a cyber attack-led ongoing software outage on Monday, with some reverting to manual paperwork as car industry technology provider CDK worked to restore systems used by more than 15,000 retail locations.
The outage impacting CDK's dealer management system that is used to complete deals, track store profitability and monitor employee compensation, has "significantly slowed down" the auto retail industry, said Cliff Steinhauer, an official at The National Cybersecurity Alliance.

What's sad is a company that loses your information faces no punishment.

No fines, no one goes to jail, no consumer compensation.

At best they might offer you a year's credit monitoring, but no help if a problem is found. It's all on you to deal with it.

And your social security number is still the same and still out there in a year when the monitoring ends, but now you have absolutely nothing.

Already, stolen credentials are resulting in people losing everything. FDIC doesnt cover bank fraud and PS the bank will accuse you, the victim of fraud. I learned this when my identity was stolen. I lost thousands and Bank of America refused to close the accounts, even as the identity theives would open new accounts in my name. BofA would keep sending me the bill. It was a nightmare and took years to clear up. Now identity theft is on an industrial scale.
Here is a recent story about how veterans were targeted:

With all the hacks and breaches over the last few years, everyone in America has lost all their information and anyone can be a victim of identity fraud.

And there isn't anything that can be done.

You can't change your birthday or mother's maiden name.

And for all practical purposes can't change your social security number.

Once all that is out in the wild, it's out there forever.

"I want to know what information was stolen in the hack."

They have access to EVERYTHING you gave the dealership when you financed. Bank accounts, SS#, driver's license, address, date of birth, you name it.

Analysts are saying that a group called BlackSuit is responsible for the hack:
BlackSuit is known to carry out “double extortion,” which in cyber terms means it steals a victim organization’s sensitive data, locks up its systems, and also threatens to leak information.

I want to know what information was stolen in the hack.

When you buy a car, you have to give them a lot of information for the credit check and loan, including social security number.

Did they get the social security numbers of everyone who bought or leased a car in the last 10 years?

Contrarian view: US adds 100% tariff on Ch1nes3 EVs (assembled in Mexico; ready to destroy the American market). Then coincidentally... the biggest US auto dealer network is paralyzed and the fix "might take years".

Whether the perpetrator was "the globalists" (IMF, WEF, WHO, etc) or the PLA, it was surely meant to take down our manufacturing industry and immobilize American commerce. A national security threat of the highest order but most GM employees are unaware and of course too entitled to think it might mean their paycheck-to-paycheck existence is threatened. Beyond this, there are many, many other threats. Like this one, which will bring back the c19 supply chain issues:
‘It’s All Happening Again.’ The Supply Chain Is Under Strain.

As Houthi rebels intensify strikes on vessels headed for the Suez Canal, global shipping prices are soaring, raising fears of product shortages and delays.

This also affects the price of oil, which should be going to $100/barrel. We are already facing an economic meltdown. That would be the flaming arrow into the heart to be sure. Don't worry though, our government is here to help.
