Why is it so hard to transition from stores to corporate? You can apply for entry level positions and the company rather hire an 23 year old with no experience straight out of college who will job hop for a bigger payday in a year. So experience no longer has value? I’ve worked for the company for 8 years in various positions in leadership and it seems like it’s for nothing. Those hired are creating new ways to do things that are sending the company in a downward spiral! Why can’t they see this? We are on the frontline with the customers daily and no one listens to our insight.

College degree required for corporate jobs.
i worked in stores for 5 years and got promoted to a corporate job. it CAN happen, but it's very rare
6 figure corporate salaries are easier to cut than 4 wall customer facing ones.
so I actually did make the move from stores to corporate. i was a people leader not an hourly colleague which probably gave me a boost. i will say, it at the end of the day it comes down to the hiring manager. mine was willing to give me a chance. many would not. but your best bet is to connect with as many people in corporate (in the area you’re interested) and build connections there. email the hiring manager to introduce yourself, say you’re interested in learning more about their area of work, and ask to set up some time. but tbh if you’re looking to leave the store, at this point, I would just leave the company. corporate doesn’t seem very stable lol
They do "promote" people from the store to corporate in a quite firing
ive seen it many times they offer them a corp gig and 1 year later they are cut
The only (very few) people I ever saw move from store to corporate were young people who blew through as a people leader and moved on after two years at the most. They were never intended for the store. Corporate DOES look down on the store workers. Anyone who's been there when they visit knows this. I was an AST and they never looked in my direction even when they needed something. A manager would have to ask me the question and then relay my answer to them right in front of me. No, corporate doesn't want the unwashed masses among them. Plus, your presence would remind them of how stores really are as a result of their cr-ppy ideas and policies.
I previously work in corporate and I will say, if you really want to get into corporate ignore what most people mentioned in their earlier post. Yes it is difficult, because most people desire is just to get into corporate. That cannot be the goal. Instead decide what you really want to pursue then find someone in corporate to become a mentor. You can also do virtual meet and greet with people who work in corporate. People love to talk about themselves. Building those relationship is key.
Example next time you call AskHR regarding a case, take a moment and ask the person about their career path. You will realize a lot of them came from stores. Take a look at jobs in corporate and write down the names of the recruiter and reach out to do a meet and greet and to learn more about the open role and most importantly get to know about their career path. Building these relationships are key because then when there are jobs open you will have various people to support you. My question for you is what career path in corporate are you interested in?
Macy's rarely moves people from the stores into corporate. Why? Cuz corporate Macy's people are stuck-up snobs who look down on the retail workers.
Why ? Because you use the word CUZ. That why you didn't get an interview.
i know macy's if full of liberals. i know some macys executives who say the would never hire anyone they suspect is a trump supporter.
It happens with every company, not just Macy's. Corporate and stores are two completely different worlds.
I have done the reach out to recruiter or hiring manager thing. Sometimes I’m ignored, sometimes they immediately reply and say something crazy like they are looking for an expert in excel and since I don’t have that one skill they won’t move forward. As if it’s not a buildable skill. I had one person who interviewed me and asked me 1 behavioral question and the other 5 questions were subjective and non professional. What’s the last book you read? What’s the best advice you have received in your career? Like what? Just don’t I interview me then!
I worked in corporate, there were 2 hires from stores.
I would utilize Insite and write the hiring manager & HR contact directly vs just sending through the portal.

I worked at Macy's for 5 years (and have years of related experience outside the company). I've applied for corporate jobs a couple of times and know others who have as well. None of us were even granted an interview.
