It appears the mastered level social workers are being replaced by bachelor level, will only do telephonic work and will no longer do covisits. Any thoughts?

Right, its MSW that’s “draining” the company. How about the cr-p ton of nurses who do little if any nursing? All I hear the nurses doing is really basic care management. Plenty of medical social workers have knowledge in that area but no lets hold on to all the nurses who do ZERO hands on nursing. When it reaches that point can you really even call it nursing? AI could do that as it sounds like the nurses just read from a script and check boxes. They can’t even do patient verification and how basic is that??!!
This is the worst work experience ever. I would rather work night shift in an ER. There is no clinical integrity so its hardly surprising what is happening. Am doing volunteer work with seniors and have made it a mission to share how UHG/Optum have easily turned clinicians into box checkers and bean counters. Same with friends and family. On paper this program looks good and some folks are toxically positive/delusional. But lipstick on a pig is still just a pig no matter what. So proud of how healthcare is envisioned here which has made me feel really good about my role. These care management programs are nothing but bloated ticks on a sick dog. Social work could make a difference but not here. Don’t get sick and don’t get too old because UHG/Optum will help you to death.
@mrz+1tcoxx6T Sadly, I agree with your observations. UHG RIF'd many of the salaried AbleTo employees, then hired contractors. Nevertheless, it will be enough to checkoff the BH services box, because at the end of the day it's about $$$ saved, not patient care. The lack of training, support or updates to the SW/BHCM roles since the April RIF is telling.
Yes, I don't know anything for sure, but they have gone over training regarding SW/BH to NCM and CC. UHG owns refresh MH and Ableto for BH needs. They can have telephonic BSW/ NCM/ CC for referrals of SDOH needs. They're not IMO going to keep paying Master's level clinicians for HBMC, as it's draining too much money and they can't bill for LMSW and won't bill for LCSW for some reason. I think SW managers will be let go in July. I don't think it'll be that soon for BH/SW, but I think probably by the end of the year.
July 18th
My thoughts...another lousy business decision. Who is running this sh## show
What information do you have on current LMSWs and LCSWs being laid off? And when is this happening?
Yes
