Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Unionize Petition Discussion

Please upvote or downvote this post as you feel. I’m possibly ready to contact legal representation from the DOL, to discuss petition creations to deliver to the business. The petition is based upon the heavy layoffs that are official/unofficial by the company dating back around 2021. If this post has high traction, a possible union nationally or even globally could become the new normal. I am willing to update this as needed to let you know and to give updates information as I get it. I wish us all the best in this.

Those that are anti union usually have never worked in a union, or currently work in management. I worked in 2 different jobs represented by a union and would do it again, in a heartbeat. It was peace of mind.

Unions would be better by far than what Optum’s plans are

I agree, Unions aren't a good thing for the employee. But sometimes you have to pick the best of the worst case scenarios because there isn't a better choice. Unions were established to protect the workers rights and level the playing field a long time ago. The last 20-30 years Unions have fallen out of favor, and Corporations have started to run amok and mis treat employees. It might be time for a resurgence of Unionization again to level that field once again. Sorry Optum---but you only have your poor leaders and failed policies to thank for people even thinking like this again. Look in the mirror to find the answers

hmm - Maybe then we could actually get cost of living increases annually. Not to mention upholding my initial contract. Our bonus structure is now going national instead of market; additionally, quarterly bonus have ever so decreased the last two quarters. I get others saying, "if you don't like it, I will show you the door" however, coming to this job was done because of the appeal for growth and a better lifestyle; if only I could have known the appeal would be a façade. I hope everyone has the pleasure of making it to their two year mark to at least get their employer matching contributions.

Before you get all pro union, think about this. Consider those super lazy coworkers you have that are slow, lazy and do half the work of everyone else. Therefore their slack gets picked up by the rest of the staff (you). Thanks to the union, they get the same raise and bonus as you, and the union protects them from any disciplinary action or termination. Unions reward employees like that and if you’re not one of those employees you’re paying union dues to keep those bad employees bad.

unions are not the end all and be all. they become about making money as much as corporate America. CASE IN POINT: my mom's union's contract came up. what they were negotiating is irrelevant. the number the union intended to open with was 20 but they were going to be happy if they got 18, and still settle if they got 17. the company opened with 21; the union demanded more. the company said they opened with their top offer. they couldn't close the contract, so they went on strike.

so...STEP 1: remove human greed. if you can do that, I will sign any petition you've got. until then, this is a bit of a naïve fairy tale.

@whs+1tbg7aO4- agreed the M&A game has been part of any major corps. But… GREED plays a major role in bumping the shareholders value declared profits in the $B? It’s GREED

Must be some newbie. This heavy layoff musical chairs been happening since at least 2010 nothing new. People in new acquisitions always get sacked. It just used to take them a couple years in the past to sort through what they bought now they culling begins immediately. Just the M&A game same as it ever was.
