In America we have the wonderful privilege of getting to choose where we work. We fill out the application, read the job description, go on the interview and accept or decline the offer. You pick. No one forces you, no one makes you choose the job. If you are in such a constant state of unrest that you come to a random anonymous platform to complain, you should probably revisit your choice and move onto something else.

I like this forum. Some people just don’t like to hear the truth. I heard there is another Macy’s employee forum that is much more active. Anyone got the link?? 😉
Lighten up Frances. Hit a nerve? Corporate spies? Yes, that's what every company does. They have an entire division to monitor all sites for complaints and issues posted against them.
The site was originally used for layoff and re-organizations and (like most meeting and surveys) turned into a massive complaint board. Every company on here has the 'same' issues. CEO's are foolish, Survey are not anonymous, Pay is horrible for workload, We are going under, don't work here, and so on and so on. Bounce around on this site or others and you will find they all read the same.
Now Macy*s and few other retailers have more posts than others, and rightfully so.
But the facts are simple, pay is always an issue (particular in retail) and in most environments. You could make more for folding and selling sure, but then the number of associates on the floor will be reduced (see Home Depot) . Then the complaint will be there isn't enough help and the workload is to heavy.
The second issue in most retailers is the pay for the average 'selling' (for lack of a better word) isn't going to be 75k a year. You are not responsible for anyone but yourself, your impact is in one store, and you sell items. You are not responsible for total sales, returns, expense accounts, turnover and the many other metrics others are held accountable too.
Look at the Walmart issue of store managers. Why can't they fill them with that salary?
Why does the largest employer in the US not have a bench for this position?
Why do they have a high percentage of turn?
Because the position itself has No work life balance. In addition the 'numbers' being met, well you are out of a job. This is that position. Much more than an attendance policy.
In the end it is retail. The OP is right you can leave Macy*, but most retailers have the same issues. Pay (again), workload, credit, staffing and the like.
I wonder what someone who chastises others for complaining in this forum is doing in this forum?? Spying for corporate? Well if so, let them read the complaints and actually do something instead of always thinking everything is perfect because the stores are FORCED to make everything look perfect for all the stupid and ridiculous visits from people who know nothing about running a store!
You can take your self righteousness and shove it where the sun don't shine and don't come round here no more!!
People are complaining to complain. Its what we do. It's similar to a survey in any industry. What's the number 1 issue they all have in common? Pay, its always pay.
Research shows even if you raise wages, what happens in 2-3 years? Same result.
In particular with retail. Stress, workload, schedule, holidays, recovery all have a check mark. But really folks we sell Lipsticks, Clothing and Pots and Pans. You are not going to earn 75K a year for doing that. It's not exactly MBA work.
I do not work in retail but I do enjoy reading the post because I have family who works for Macy’s. I do agree that sometimes people complain a little too much. I work as a correction officer perhaps some of the “retail employees” should come work for us. They will go home every day happier. Lol
Please repost your comments again in December when you realize your job is also on the chopping block. All your brown nosing and towing the company line won't matter after this year's dismal Black Friday sales numbers are released.

signed the kool aid man
I guess you are the one that sits in the office and pretend to work and get a big check for your pretending, sounds exhausting.
Be glad people have a forum to air their grievances outside of the building. You think the morale is bad now? Take platforms like this away and see what happens.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if life were actually that simple.
Take the posts here as unfiltered feedback and use it to build stronger teams. No one will say their true feelings through official channels. It is true we are privileged to be working, but you also have the privilege to be seeing the real feedback here to know what is truth. If you are in any sort of position to make real consequential changes, these comments are a goldmine.
So, then you come to a random platform and complain about people complaining? Does that make sense?
What people leader or manager are you and what store? exactly how to handle complaints by employees. They complain and you complain more instead of lending a constructive ear. We are not complaining just stating facts. The truth sometimes is hard to hear.
The original post complains about other people complaining.
The site is called “The Layoff”. Of course people are going to complain.
