Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

How Exxon keeps you from receiving a pension

Read the details on what it takes to become a full pension eligible retiree carefully. Plenty of opportunity for Exxon to sc--w you out of any promises pension. After talking to friends at Exxon it is clear to me that Exxon does everything it can to PIP and fire employees as they approach retirement to avoid actually paying the promised pension. Beware of promises.

Exxon total comp may be slightly worse than PNR, but you will be far from the streets. The government will max your pension income limit before you reach the Exxon limit.

They only count 10 years of your prior service at a company they acquire when it comes to becoming eligible for a pension.

Another game I am told they play if they don’t fire you is to basically stop giving raises and promotions when you are near retirement. This reduces your pension as it is based on your highest several years salary. Hurts even more in the current high inflation environment.
