Thread regarding ADP layoffs

Interviewing at ADP

I’m going into a final interview round at ADP HQ and just learned about the layoffs. I have to say it’s making me rethink wanting to work there. I’m currently at another company that has had rounds of layoffs and don’t want to jump ship for something worse. I’m 49 and concerned about age discrimination.

Don’t waste your time at this cesspool of a company. They’ll chew you up and sp-t you out at the drop of a hat. They have a long and distinguished record of letting the best and most loyal employees go in favor of outsourcing jobs offshore to cheap, ignorant and lazy India deadbeats. Great place to cut your teeth and build a resume but definitely no longer the “Employer of Choice” (what a joke that was!).

Tell that to today's youngsters who expect to be treated like royalty at their jobs, look at their phones all day and collect a paycheck. More and more of these kind of "workers" are appearing all over the place. I see these kinds of future workers in our high schools who look at their phones in class and don't want to work on their assignments or do homework but are given passing grades anyway. Then they graduate, go on to college for more of the same, or enter the workforce and sit at their employer looking at their phones most of the time and wait for their paychecks to keep rolling in.

GREAT company to join with the caveat of ALWAYS looking to better yourself. Do not ever expect to join and relax, those days in any company are long gone. You can excel at ADP or almost anywhere else but…. It’s on YOU.
As it should be.

Just my opinion.

They should, but many don't. That's the reality.

There is a big difference in an employee just coming in for a paycheck and minimally involved versus an engaged, enthusiastic, and hardworking employee always willing to go the extra mile.

They’re hired to do what the boss says, they get a paycheck that cashes, that’s the deal. If at any time they feel it’s too much they can walk away.

Very, very simple.

Employee commitment, satisfaction, and productivity are suffering, not the stock price, although it would most certainly be better with a committed, competent, and an engaged workforce. That is what is sown and reaped.

If the stock price is any indication they’re certainly reaping.

You are very fortunate in having things work out for you at ADP. Most of my colleagues were not so lucky. They struggled to different degrees when laid off or VERPed. When my turn came to being laid off, I managed a soft landing into retirement. Now in the best time of my life. I hold no animosity toward ADP for laying me off. Yes, business is business. Yet I could see when I was at ADP how ADP's practices dug into the associates, caused credibility losses and in turn reduced productivity, and encouraged associates to find other employment. But that is ADP's problem, not mine. Numbers are numbers and business is business. You reap what you sow.

I decided against the VERP at ADP when it was offered several years ago, and I am happy that I chose to stay. I have decided to retire from ADP, not because of any pressure to push me out it has been the opposite, leadership encouraged me to stay. I'm over 60 and want to focus on something other than HRMS. Sorry to hear about the layoffs, it happens to the best of us. It happened to me once and worked in my favor. But It led to a more lucrative job with better benefits, higher salaries, etc. I know the boomer population is the smallest segment of the population. I think that can be attributed to the VERP and folks retiring who had long tenures and unfortunately deaths. I have never lost sight that All companies exist to make a profit and are beholden to shareholders. I don't hold RIF personal because it's not about me, it's about the numbers. For some this a hard pill to swallow.

ADP is not a good company to work for. And regular layoffs, especially for older and better paid folks. ADP is a good starter job for a newly minted college graduate. But to build a long-term career there? No thanks.

Your job will probably be replaced by AI or a person in India making a dollar an hour..
The "training" you have during the year about bullying, ageism etc is a joke. The managers do it all the time. Sales runs the show.. at the expense of the clients and anyone else involved- probably why clients drop like flies once onboard.

Why are you leaving your current company, need more information about that before we can help you make a decision about ADP or anywhere else for that matter.

It depends on the role you’re looking at. It’s a finance and sales-led company. But if you work in operations, client service or sales you’ll likely be highly valued. If you work in product development or marketing, avoid like the plague.

I took the VERP (Voluntary Early Retirement) plan a number of years ago after "enjoying" the annual end-of-June blood-letting year after year just around my birthday week.

My boss (A Senior Director, I was pretty senior on the tech track myself) said "I can't believe you said "yes." She was horrified. I replied, "I can't believe you don't understand why I decided in an hour to get out!."

So yeah, if you're 49, and well-paid, you'll be target of the annual sacrifice.

Starting on June 1st, you'll wonder "Am I next?"

By the time you're 59, you'll BE next.

Just say no.
