Every time I see this post about smoking a big 'ole doobie before going back into the office, I laugh. I'm getting ready for my 75-minute commute on 9/11, to travel a mere 7 miles to the Boston office (first in my car, and then on a TRAIN) to sit in an office where I will then join a 10-person call (via Teams) where I will be the only one in the actual office. I didn't go to college for four years, to commute 75 minutes to travel 7 miles to log into a virtual meeting. I better rethink this one!!

I didn’t go to college for seven years to then go to an office once a week. They better rethink this one.

When Cengage closed the San Francisco office, this coincided to a strict work near an office policy. Anyone in SF or other satellite offices that closed either had to relocate or get let go, with some exceptions. I even knew someone who relocated only to get laid off a month later during one of our big purges.

Of course, times are different. But everyone should be hoping for a return to office policy. If you can work from your home, someone can work from India.

Like most places on the internet, I think The Layoff has been overtaken by trolls.

They're not making everyone go back to the office. That would be an impossibility, considering that in some locations there is no longer an office and in others the office has been reduced in size that it could no longer accommodate everyone. I don't think they want to add money to the budget by purchasing new office space.

My how things have changed. Back in the day we had management sycophants who used to monitor what time people arrived at office and left. Every day.

Is this some kind of joke? I live in the Cincinnati area and no word from my manager about this. I heard they are clearing out the offices in Mason. Making the leased area smaller.

I don't think that 20 miles requirement has changed.

Did something change from the announcement a few months ago? It’s only people within 20 miles of Mason and Boston one day a week, last I heard. When they announced it, it was starting in September. Did that change?
