Many here and elsewhere are speculating that we will see not only continued layoffs, but also mergers, acquisitions and general changes in direction. If that’s true, what would that mean for us? Would that improve the tech job market, or are we going to be more under threat due to AI hype, offshoring and consolidation? Your thoughts?

Artificial neural networks have been around for over 60 years. Seriously LLM's started in the 50s. AI has turned into a hype buzz word used to artificially inflate stock.
The real danger starts when tech leaders get su-ked into the ferver and bet the farm.
On the other hand many tech leaders know it's a bubble and strategically cash out before the bubble implodes. Some body has to pay for the billionaire pump and dump. You guessed it the American middle class worker. 401k used as the base of the hype driven pyramid scheme. If you try to cash out before the implosion say good bye to 60% that will go to taxes. The billionaires will pay 0%. Half of Americans worship this system. Instead of accepting facts they will jump through mental hoops to blame minorities.

We are headed into a recession that is long overdue. Regardless of what tech is doing, in the next 6 months-2 years expect a continuing trend of layoffs.
Tech is growing. Just not in legacy infrastructure, like Dell and Cisco.
The IT industry has been a mature market for over 20 years. Consolidation and offshoring will continue to boost profits. AI cannot function on its own without Data Scientists building, testing and refining the right models. AI is not the silver bullet that Wall Street needs to slash payrolls to near 0 in the United States.
AI opens Pandora's Box to copywrite infringement and therefore caution must be exercised to ensure someone else's work is not used without proper citation and/or compensation.
