Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Kroger Technology merger restructuring

Welp we just got our "every 3-year" layoff/restructuring announcement in relation to the Albertsons merger. This one sounds very similar to Digital Transformation in 2019. They are performing talent evaluations and "get to know you meetings". Lots of promises of "new opportunities". We were told to "update your talent profile TODAY" and to
"go above and beyond" and "carry extra weight"...

I've been here 13 years and have survived 3 layoffs attempts and several mergers. Update your resume and prepared to be disrespected throughout the entire process. I still remember how nearly everyone apart of Digital Transformation were told they were qualified for the job they've been doing for years, only to be placed right back in that role!

Any update on this given the new merger news? Is a restructuring still coming?

Why would they get a new building in Blue Ash if there is going to be another mass restructuring/lay off? I figured it was more likely that all the remote associates hired during the pandemic would be let go if they didn't move to Cincinnati or some other remote satellite office location. If you remember when they first announced RTO last year, they said that in June 2025 there would be an opportunity for "eligible associates" to get a relocation benefit to work in Cincinnati. That to me indicates they intend on doing away with people that work 100% remote.

They just told us they selected some technology associates to move to C&S if the merger is approved. They are not allowed to decline, they no longer work for Kroger unless the merger is blocked.

This is very similar to Transformation.

I was one of the people impacted by transformation in 2020.

  • We worked our tails off, 7 days per week, through COVID lockdown. Then found out in October 2020 we may not have a job. My response was pretty much, "If that's the way you treat your employees, I'm done. Just give me severance." They insisted that I jump through all of the hoops, and I insisted that I would do everything I could to ensure I was "not selected", which, fortunately, I was not.
  • On separate occasions, I ran into several Kroger HQ employees who remained after Transformation, and then quit within months. They said that, after so many people were let go, those who remained worked 70 hour weeks, as HR took many months to have the roles filled again. I'm curious if anyone can validate this.
  • We were told we did not have jobs ON THE WEEK OF THANKSGIVING. Really class, Kroger. Really classy, Yael.
  • Be warned, if you're on the list, your manager and HR will ignore you. 1:1s canceled, and no response from KTDHR (not that they ever did respond to anything). They don't care.

After being a loyal lifelong Kroger customer, I'm proud that I've not stepped foot inside a Kroger in three years. I refuse to contribute to Yael's bonus.

You are not alone. The company has demonstrated such immense disrespect for the people who keep it alive and operating day in and day out that the number willing to return that disrespect is approaching 100%.
