Hello,
I am interested in speaking with employees at the Canon location in Newport News, Virginia who were affected by the latest company layoffs. Please contact me at: sandra.pennecke@pilotonline.com ASAP if you would like to share your personal situation with me for a story. Thank you. Kind regards.

Hey Sandra! My HOA is threatening to fine me for my grass being too long. This seems like a story you'd cover. Let me know if you're interested!!
In her defense, she doesn't seem like a hard hitting journalist. After conducting a quick google search, her latest article is about a local fish market listed for sale.
Wow! Since Canon won't provide a statement, the reporter expects Canon employees to have their name used in full for the article? How did all of the other news coverage from other organizations get published? I agree, something is really off with Sandra's response. I wouldn't trust her either.

Thank you for your reply, Stacey. I am so sorry to hear what you and your loved one are going through.
I looked into the layoffs that are currently happening at Canon...right now there have been no further ones at the Newport News location. I was told that the current layoffs only affect workers at the Melville, NY location. With all that being said, I am not going to be able to cover anything at this point in time.
My best,
Sandra

Hi Sandra, that is simply not true because my relative was laid off in July 2024.

Thank you, again, for your reply, Stacey.
Unless your relative specifically wants to be interviewed for a story (with his/her name used in full), unfortunately, there's not much I can do.
Were there other employees at the Newport News location who were laid off along with your relative? Or was he/she the only one?
Was your relative told this was a lay off or was he/she let go due to a reduction in force or some other performance/other reason?

@2sjv+1tTgLzyT, can you paste your mail well? or at least summarize it?
There was also a third comment deleted mentioning this reporter having a close relationship to her Canon contacts.
Post ID: @2hwr+1tTgLzyT she did legitimately make that post and I reached out and this is the response I received. It keeps getting deleted from this thread. DO NOT reach out to her because she will publish your name in the article even though she's been informed employees who signed severance agreements will be in breach of their agreement.

Posts have been removed from this thread. At least 2. One a specific email from the journalist saying she will only print story with peoples names. Another about reporters protecting sources. Someone is going in and removing parts of threads of different conversations, therefore steering the narrative.
Keep in mind that anybody could have started this thread. While this reporter really does exist and the email address mentioned above is legit, layoff.com does not require any kind of sign in to create threads. It doesn't hurt to shoot her an email, I guess, but don't be surprised if she seems surprised by it. Just sayin'
Hey Sandra - you should align with your news peers in NY for a more compressive story!! Far more to the story than the impact on CVI. Don’t forget CITS as well…
Get a news award from this story.
This post must be giving the head of their communications/hr team hot flashes! I guess her response to the February 2024 article makes it look like she was being dishonest given the current state of affairs.
Your reporting should also cover why Canon is not filing WARN notices! They are fudging how they are processing these lay offs to fly under the radar.
Anyone who received severance cannot speak to you because of the agreement they signed. Canon is so petty that even posting that they laid you off on your personal Facebook page will garner attention from HR and they will ask you to remove it and threaten legal action if you don’t because they view that as disparaging remarks.
The severance agreements prevent people from reporting ageism, retaliation, and collecting any damages from labor law violations. They scare former employees into submission.
