With layoffs there is minimal regulation. They can keep H1B visa people. Kick older people out.

You are 100% wrong. They absolutely do this. The Severance Agreement specifically calls out that you are waving your ability to sue for violations under the Age Discrimination Act by signing it.
Don't think for a second that Micron gives a second thought about following anti discrimination law when doing layoffs. The severance package is nothing more than a bribe to mitigate the risk of litigation.
Every US based employee under my VP that was laid-off last year fell into the age protected class. This is documented in the disclosures that they are forced to provide the impacted employees that are in the age protected class.
Out with the old, in with the new. Fresh ideas and people instead of people clinging to ageism as their battle cry and excuse for being lazy.
The geezers need to go, especially the bosses contributing to this Micron mess.
Some older people are not pulling their weight so being older shouldn’t be an insurance policy.
