Silent Offboarding: Negative Reviews Used as Pretext for Termination

Yesterday, my director returned from her Cancun vacation and delivered an extremely harsh “NASTIEST” mid-year review. She didn’t even offer me the manager’s rating and mentioned that the department VP recommended eliminating my position in PA.

I received offboarding paperwork from CVS Employee Relations, with no information about severance. Paperwork indicates my last day as 08/30/2024. There is no WARN Notice in the state of PA or any Unemployment information yet.

The decision to eliminate my position was made by individuals who do not have any formal education. Who hired them for CVS leadership (Director and above) positions? Don’t CVS HR Consider any education as a standard for leadership hiring's? What is going on in this company?

A true job elimination should provide severance benefits. If you do not get answers from your manager, contact your manager’s manager, HR, Colleague Relations, Ethics Line, etc. Do whatever it takes to get accurate information on what is going on with your job, timing (last day worked vs. notice period and official separation date) and what severance benefits are available for you.

@OP+1tT6VInY "Don’t CVS HR Consider any education as a standard for leadership hiring's? What is going on in this company?" they don't really care about education, otherwise they wouldn't allow rampant overseas nepotism from people with flimflam degrees. after what ive seen i wouldn't even be mad at that director, try to get your severance and thank goodness that you've been prodded to go to a decent company that is built around a meritocracy

WARN is only required if 50 or more employees from one location are let go. Severance isn't guaranteed. I would make a call to HR and get some answers
