Hello. I've seen several posts about milage being a deciding factor for RTO verses WFH? folks in my office was told it was 50 miles limit but others on this site say 30 miles? I'm required to RTO even tho I'm well over 30. Can can someone confirm? Or point me towards the policy for clariification? It's so frustrating not knowing why there would be different requirements?.

The announcements and guidance read is as if it is manager discretion but they just pass the blame up the ladder.
I’m in enterprise tech and we do commute distance mileage NOT straight line /crow flies like the previous note. What area are you in?
Truist is making something simple overly complicated and inconsistent. I don’t get it unless the confusion and instability/inconsistency is the point?
They were so hardcore with the 4 day messaging but the actual enforcement is non existent and application in practice is mushy. Makes you wonder if the plan to enforce discipline this year is on hold
Has anyone gone to HR on this issue? Seems to me a someone should. I'm in Richmond and I've heard 50 miles? On a good day it could take someone over 30 miles a good hour to get to the office.
It’s supposedly straight line 30-35 miles, so even if you’re drive would be, say 40 miles, it still would fall in the 30-35 mile range.
If you’re in a large metro with traffic, it should be 30 miles.
I live more than 30 miles out and pass some coworkers homes that have been granted WFH status on my drive into work. The policy is not being applied consistently.
What discretion are managers being given?
I was given the impression WFH/Remote had to be approved like one level below executive management.
To the person that said “it’s manager discretion” - what area are you in? That’s not been my experience as a manager.
I dont feel like the recent (July/august) guidance gives me discretion to move my teammates to remote. I already moved people 30-35 miles away to remote in previous RTO communication rounds. But now that the in office requirement is 4 days, the inconsistent treatment feels like I’m not being fair to my teammates that live 25-30 miles away. It’s so messed up.
The whole RTO is manager discretion. Some have to RTO, some don't.
Amazing how employers think these "random enforced policies" are productive and in any way bring their workforce together and create a cohesive team environment. These policies do just the opposite. Stop with the ambiguity and just trust your employees to do their job - and if not - hire competent managers that can mentor or remove employees that don't. It is that easy!
If you do not plan to comply with the 4 day RTO policy, and you have others within your reporting hierarchy who have been granted “special” work from home privileges, formally request WFH in writing to your manager and HR and save a copy.
From there, they can either approve or deny your request, and it gives you a stronger case if they fire you, especially if you are of a protected class or have recently complained of unlawful activity.
I would also consult with an employment lawyer to advise you of your options so you can be proactive in defending yourself against their wishy washy RTO policy.
It is not just a function of distance. It also depends on worker productivity/ competence, team productivity, nature of work, manager’s mood and relationships.
HR is no help. They aren’t even being given consistent information. Pretty sure it depends on which way the coin lands.
A manager in one area told me
people with remote offers could stay remote. Another area I know of is enforcing people to come in if within a certain distance regardless of offer.
Tech was 30 miles but I heard recently they were increasing to 35, can anyone confirm? Heard financial crimes is 50 and audit is 35. I don’t think risk and GCO have a consistent guideline.
But there is no policy or guideline in writing that I can find - and I think that’s by design. Then they would have to actually enforce it and be consistent in how they treat similarly situated teammates
