Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Half of companies admit that 75%+ of the layoffs weren't necessary to cut costs

Key findings of the survey include:

  • 80% of respondents said their company chose to lay off an employee instead of firing them.
  • 31% of business leaders surveyed said that performance is always a factor in layoff decisions.
  • The top reason for hiding termination decisions behind layoffs is to maintain company morale.

My landmark team was tops in our state but they closed our metro because of drive time between clients, nothing to do with performance or metrics

Not true for me. I hand 4/5 on my last review.

I don't think that was the case in our branch of Landmark. We saw really good nurses and supervisors let go and some absolutely terrible ones kept. It made 0 sense.

That's probably true for many companies. at Optum, I don't believe that 80% of the people who were laid off were simply bad at their jobs. That's 4 out of 5 people who were let go. my team has been through FOUR rounds of layoffs in the last year. I've known the people personally; they were amazing. also, consider the thousands of healthcare workers who were laid off / will be laid off. Optum is slashing workforce--not because of performance, but because they're ditching workforce.
