Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Layoffs happening in secret

A number of people I know have been told they need to find a new job in the next couple of months if they want to keep their jobs.

MA starting strong with shady practices.

It’s going to be tough. Shell are targeting the US so expect the same. I’m speaking with recruiters in preparation. It’s very stressful dealing with repeated strategy and org shifts.

What businesses have already been told to look for other opportunities?

Y’all are whining and have no priorities. Every team at bp is understaffed - except G&LCE. Communications doesn’t even make money. We need to focus on production, and sell everything else or layoff dead weight.

That is ridiculous, the communications team is understaffed. And I say this as an engineer. I need more communication help. The business I am in has to share a communication person with at least two other businesses, maybe more. They can only work on mission critical projects since their spread thin.

The communications and external affairs function is very duplicitous. They are going to gut the central communications team (within P&C) to drastically reduce headcount and budget. There will be a skeleton crew that takes orders from P&C leaders who clearly don’t understand communications or reputational management. That is how P&C will show they are “sacrificing” for the company. In reality they are laying off communications people, and P&C will still be bloated and transactional with no strategy. Small communications teams will be in the regions with no alignment, minimal budget and minimal influence. Sound familiar?

bp will not be bought or merge. No one will pay what bp’s board “thinks” it’s worth. Also the UK government will block a sale for “energy security” reasons, but we all know it’s nationalist pride.

Someone used the term GTO in this thread. What does that mean?

I feel pretty d-mb sticking around for those reinvent shares. Even if we get them after all of this, they’ll be worthless. Best case scenario is bp gets bought for a premium and the stock gets a 30% bump. But I doubt that will happen.

From that same digital/technology one, I think it will be VP changes in September and they stage it out like reinvent each month.

I think it’s going to be a lot bigger than people realise. In Technology at least.

I was on a recent call and people were asking about “when are in-role promotions going to be unfrozen”. Very tone deaf!!!

They’ve just realise that this federated reinvent isn’t working. It’s becoming a mess. So they’ve decided to a GTO and coordinate the change. Sept was chosen. No big announcement. P&C hit hard. US teams that can be in the UK. Think anything that can be done in the east by GBS.

I’d like to know what’s happening in mid September too. There a lot of rumors on my team about a “big” announcement, but no details. I’ve heard rumors ranging from mass layoffs, to spinning off G&LCE, to selling refining or bpX, to a merger with Shell or ADNOC. The ELT sure are good at leaking just enough information to make everyone extremely nervous.

Can any folks share what this “September” change will look like? Seems super cryptic.

Do the people that are getting the boot already know or are we still in the only the managers know phase?

They will most likely slowly cull the heard of bad leaders at BPX in more subtle way. I cannot wait. We need a reckoning. It will be slow but it needs to happen.
