Look, we all have coworkers who just ain't doing their part and haven't been in a long time, whether in the office or while remote. A lot of us have the attitude that it's none of our business as long as we're doing our job. You may even consider some of those people friends. It is our business and those people ain't your friends. They are quite literally putting all our jobs in danger. It's up to each of us to make sure our managers know when people ain't pulling their weight. If your manager seems indifferent, then make sure their manager knows. As they said after 911, "see something say something".

Ok Sarah
Schwab wasted all money, they spend on Jira and Other tools which used identify the blocker and who is working.
You could have stopped at Schwab wasted all money. That’s one skill we have in abundance.
Jira, Clarity, meeting minutes, weekly reports, quarterly rollups and more. None of it is used and all of it is waste. I pulled Clarity data to defend new headcount years ago. I was told I shouldn’t be so stupid as to think anyone believed the data. And then I was asked to make sure the team completed their sheets.
Really "your managers eyes" - don't they do they job - why do they need you to do their job - if you do that you are a total brown noser covering up an inept manager ;/
. I've always committed to being my manager's "eyes and ears" in everyone position
This some side effect
- you will know for that throughout your team, that you are ear and eye of your manager
- You may get some bonuses and So called title not promotion, but you will stuck with same project and work for every long time
- You may not able move easily because the information you passed to manager, the same person exposed you them directly or indirectly.
People leader here. I absolutely expect my reports to keep me informed about their teammates' productivity or lack thereof
This one line making me feel,
Schwab wasted all money, they spend on Jira and Other tools which used identify the blocker and who is working.
So called people leader depended on EAR whisper :) .
do not forget people who are ear whispering they may be lying also
People leader here. I absolutely expect my reports to keep me informed about their teammates' productivity or lack thereof
So you are informed by your team mate?
One of the most common reasons why people want to spy on others is out of anxiety or fear?
Which is your choice fear or anxiety?
If some informing you about some one, they will inform some about you.
People leader here. I absolutely expect my reports to keep me informed about their teammates' productivity or lack thereof. If I were ever to find one of them was willfully blind to a coworker slacking off, I assure you they would be held accountable.
I'm not sure this'll keep you from getting laid off but I can say it certainly is something that helps when it comes to bonus and merit inrcreases. I've always committed to being my manager's "eyes and ears" in everyone position I've had and it's always been appreciated.
Please provide me with the proper Glint survey so I can have "say something" about the various members of the EC. A majority of those empty shirts are beyond worthless.
Enough of the Austin rumors already. There's too many people there to shut it down. They couldn't get rid of it if they wanted to.
They can work from home :) .
Last 4 Years proved that and even it is cost effective
Ah,the cutthroat world of corporate America. Le sigh. There is a soution though. I give you a better way - https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/61/pg61-images.html
Yeah, they might sell Austin
And monkey's might fly out ofm y butt!
As a manager, nothing would make me happier than having a bunch of people whining to me about their peers while implying that I was too clueless to notice.
See something, say something? Even the feckless TSA abandoned that nonsense.
I hate to say it but OP has a point. Between the fed not dropping rates, todays market selloff and a recession all but certain, more layoffs are guaranteed. I got a family to take care of so if it's between you and me, I'm gonna do what it takes to convince them it should be you. Sorry but I will do what it takes to survive.
Austin may be in the market as a leaseback. This would free cash and make more sense than the CRE purchases of late.
Of course, at $1,600 a seat, it would make much more sense to downsize all the campuses and lower expenses for the firm and employees. A full telecommute program would also allow hiring in cheaper areas. Since I’m on a Teams call right now with at least six locations represented, it should be clear it wouldn’t make a difference for most of us.
Ok comrade.
We already have morale problems without the iron curtain neighbors attacking neighbors nonsense.
Enough of the Austin rumors already. There's too many people there to shut it down. They couldn't get rid of it if they wanted to.
What is all this talk about selling the Austin campus
They have an old saying for people like you OP. How does it go snitches get ……
What? They sold the Austin campus?
oh - narc in a skip level meeting = that is a sure fire way to get a target on your back. The real problem is that some managers are just floating by - they want everyone below to pick up the slack and make them look good. EC/higher ups need to realize who really is doing the work - not all the PM/People manager types
Tell that to the Austin employees who will be out of work cause they sold the campus for a quick earnings boost to appease the shareholders. No amount of narcing is going to save them.
I’m more focused on doing my job in a way where I can point to quantifiable results.
